Looking up at the Ironbridge.

Ironbridge is a village on the River Severn, at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge, in Shropshire, England. Ironbridge developed beside, and takes its name from, the famous Iron Bridge, a 30-metre (100 ft) cast iron bridge that was built across the river in 1779. The Iron Bridge is a bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire, England. Opened in 1781, it was the first arch bridge in the world to be made of cast iron, and was greatly celebrated after construction owing to its use of the new material.

In 1934 it was designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument and closed to vehicular traffic. Tolls for pedestrians were collected until 1950, when ownership of the bridge was transferred to Shropshire County Council. It now belongs to Telford and Wrekin Borough Council. The bridge, the adjacent settlement of Ironbridge and the Ironbridge Gorge form the UNESCO Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. The bridge is a Grade I listed building, and a waypoint on the South Telford Heritage Trail.

The bridge, named after the two islands that it links Geoje and Gadeok, has the world's second longest undersea highway, and cuts the travel time from Busan to Geoje Island to one hour from about three and a half.

This image was shot from the Geoje side along a pebble beach nearby.

The Suwannee Springs Bridge is an abandoned steel truss bridge over the Suwannee River. Built in 1931, it once carried US 129 and connected Suwannee and Hamilton Counties; it has since been replaced by a new bridge just west of here.

The bridge appears to be a party spot for the bored kids of nearby Live Oak. The bridge is covered in graffiti and someone took the time to hang little stars from the steel beams.

A few years ago -- left in the "is it worth putting on flickr?" folder for so long because I've already posted several of this cliché view...

Sundøy Bridge (Sundøybrua) is a cantilever bridge that connects Sundøya on the island of Alsten with the mainland in Nordland county in Norway. The bridge is 538 metres long, the main span is 298 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 43.5 metres. The bridge has three spans.

Sundøy Bridge was opened on 9 August 2003. It cost 176 million kroner. The decision to spend such an amount of money on a bridge to a place with less than 150 inhabitants was disputed. However, Sundøya did not get connected to the mainland when the rest of Alsten did, following the opening of Helgeland Bridge in 1991. This was because mountains separated the two sides of the island with regard to the island's roads. Consequently the people at Sundøya thought it was only fair that they got their connection as well.

Maintenance and resurfacing is underway, so the bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic until October 15, 2014. However, it will be open to pedestrian/bicycle traffic with some minor delays.

an old bridge crossing I-376 into pittsburgh from the east was demolished earlier this year & i am awed by the construction of its replacement, spanning a road used by tens of thousands of cars per day.
