Thirteen professional boxing bouts and the debut of four of Wales’ top talents had set the scene for Saturday 23rd July at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre. Sanigar Events had once again put on a stacked bill of bouts with a number of Wales’ best prospects and biggest names right now.
We had Swansea boys Sonny Lee and Kristian Touze make their professional debut, along with Treharris’s Gavin Gwynne.

* JOE FRAZIER DEAD AT 67
Boxing great JOE FRAZIER has died after losing a final fight against liver cancer.
The former heavyweight champion, who handed Muhammad Ali his first defeat in the ring, died on Monday night (07Nov11). He was 67.
Frazier, nicknamed Smokin' Joe, was diagnosed with cancer last month (Oct11) and he has been receiving treatment at a hospice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania since Halloween (31Oct11).
He famously beat Ali in a 1971 boxing match considered by fight purists as the Fight of the Century.
Frazier fought Ali in two more epics, including the 'Thrilla in Manila' grudge match in 1975, but he lost both.
He started fighting in 1965 and ended his career in 1981 with a fight against Jumbo Cummings. His record was 32 wins, four losses and a draw. Frazier's wins included 27 knock outs.
As well as Ali, he fought George Foreman twice, Joe Bugner and Oscar Bonavena twice. (KL/WN/KL)

"Boxing Glove" cake, done for a birthday. The glove part was made with my Marble cake and the "cuff" section was my cherry/vanilla cake. It was filled with Dolce de Leche buttercream and then wrapped in fondant and worked to show details and creases, along with some added stitching effect.
An action packed show full of some of Britain’s top fighters was set to unfold on Saturday 16th July. Myself; Kailem Sims; of Boxing Media UK sat ringside at the Cardiff Ice Arena and watched carefully at a barrage of exciting bouts which took place in a packed arena at Cardiff Bay.
Clydach Vale’s very own Liam ‘Dully’ Williams headlined the show against his bitter domestic rival Gary Corcoran in the first defence of his British and Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Titles.
Pound-for-Pound megastar Guillermo Rigondeaux came to the UK to fight on our shores for the first time as he took on Liverpool’s James ‘Jazza’ Dickens for the WBA Super-Bantamweight World Championship.
We also got to see Manchester Lightweight hotshot Terry ‘Turbo’ Flanagan come up against the veteran 135 pounder Mzonke Fana. A wide selection of boxing matches which did not let us down
On Friday, March 30, the FDNY Bravest Boxing team raised funds for @BuildingHomesforHeroes with a match vs. the Garda Siochana Boxing Club of the Irish National Police force. Members who have made the Supreme Sacrifice this year in the line-of-duty were honored with a 10-bell salute – Lt. Christopher Raguso, Lt. Michael Davidson, and Fire Marshal Christopher "Tripp" Zanetis.
This ended up very simple - I had originally planned on making the whole cake as the gloves. I think this worked though and was definitely easier to cut!
