I've gotten addicted to designing and printing things on Shapways.com using their rapid prototyping machines. This is my latest design for a small box that 'clicks' into place with a flexible plastic mechanism. My first test-print of a similar box had tolerances much too loose and it didn't click.

Altered Altoid box. Multimedia (paper collage, Chinese coin, pearl, folded tea bags). Many thanks to ATheeC who sent me those beautiful oriental teabags with instructions for how to fold them.
I'm just weird :-) and I like it.
Some of my camera gear boxes piled atop my kitchen table with a space between for my ugly mug....SB-600 almost straight above at Full power hanging from the kitchen light....Plain white computer paper on the table to reflect a little light back up onto my face..
This altoid box is covered in polymer clay with a skinner blend and rubber stamped ink details, and a polymer clay face mask.

This is the front of my D54250WYK1 box -
The 1 at the end means it includes a North American power cord (type B), if there is a 2 or 3 at the end it includes a power cord for other regions. THE ONLY PLACE YOU WILL SEE THE "1" is on the white label on the side of the box.
You may also see the kit part number listed as BOXD54250WYK which is the number for a single box.
Alternatively you may see BLKD54250WYK which is a pack of 10 individual boxes (most vendors buy these)
Whether the vendor bought a 10 pack, or individual boxes, the label on each individual box will be BOXD54250WYK (with power cord indicator if it applies).
Intel also makes a version that supports a 2.5 inch laptop drive or SSD (max thickness supported is 9.5mm) it will have an "H" at the end (after the K, but before the power cord indicator)
All these notes apply to the Haswell (Wilson Canyon) core i3 versions of the NUC kit too.

Belmont Gate Box is located in Starbeck and controls the Level Crossing that it is on. It has a frame of 5 levers and controls just one Semaphore signal. It is the smallest box on the Harrogate Line although it is built to the same design as the boxes at Cattal, Marston Moor and Poppleton it was built slightly taller and narrower than the standard design which is why it has a square base.
Also note that its gabled roof is built at a right angle to the line whereas it is standard for gabled roofs of signal boxes to be parallel with the line.
The base of the origami gift box using 8x12" scrapbooking sheets and this tutorial - www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYSksmSLCmQ Easy peasy and looks great. Used to house some of my knitting to gift to a co-worker who is now in her final stages of pregnancy.
My friend, gaymay, bought a similar carved box recently. I told him I was going to post a pic of mine too! And James you're right! I thought yours was bigger than mine, but they are about the same size. This one is a smidgen under 5" long. It's kind of hard to tell from the photo, but it also has a velvet lining like yours.
This was part of a Christmas present given to me years ago by my sister-in-law, Mary.

Inside the box or, shall I say, the box, is a shape shifting creature perfectly evolved to catch its prey in the greedy, grabby, 30th century. The flashing light quickly hypnotizes the victim into see whatever they want most in the world dangling from the tentacle luring them close enough for the box to absorb.
I made this Halloween take out box using the "Happy Owl-o-ween" stamp from My Cute Stamps. The spiderweb is made using the Martha Stewart punch.
Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.
Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.
Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’
Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.
