Montecristo is the best known and probably most appreciated brand of Habanos throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged. Named after Edmundo Dantes, hero of Alexandro Dumas' famous novel "The Count of Montecristo", the Edmundo is the first size to be added to Montecristo's standard range since 1971. It is the second new 52 ring gauge, parejo size to be introduced by Habanos, SA within a year.
This fat and sassy cigar was introduced in the spring of 2004. The cigar measures 5 3/8 inches long by 52 ring gauge and is produced primarily in the H. Upmann factory, which is in the neighborhood of Nuevo Vedado in Havana. Originally, the cigar was rather mild, with a subtle cedary, tobacco character. Some even called it bland. But recent-production Edmundos have shown much more spice and coffee character. It’s as if the Cubans increased the strong tobacco (ligero) in the blend. Whatever the reason, the cigar is now one of the most exciting coming out of Cuba.

At the south-east corner of Trafalgar Square in London is probably the smallest police box ever put into service. An ornamental light fitting originally installed in 1826 was hollowed out by Scotland Yard in 1926, and a telephone and internal light were installed. Police officers could use the telephone to summon assistance. Nowadays this box seems to be used for the storage of street maintenance equipment.
A little friend of ours turned 5 and she received a personalized doll in its own box with trading cards, based on one of her drawing.

I recently had my Rockola Comet juke box restored. I used to shoot pool and play the juke box with my friends when I was in high school. That was a long time ago. Hey Mary, How do you like the way the juke box looks? Come and listen to it sometime! It is partly yours.

Compass Railtours "Fylde Coast Express' 1Z43 0518 Kilmarnock - Blackpool North hauled by Stanier 'Black 5' No. 44932 hurries along the Fylde Coast mainline at Salwick on 22nd May 2013. On the right are sidings (presently unused I think) for the Springfield nuclear manufacturing plant. Although carrying a plate above the signal box door that it is 'Salwick No. 3', it is now of course the only one at the location. It is the fringe box to Preston and one of six along the line to Blackpool North. Steam working specifically and railtours in general to Blackpool are now quite rare due in the main to lack of paths on the busy Fylde Coast Line. The added complication for steam workings is that the locomotive has to work to Lostock Junction to turn, a manoeuvre of around 60 miles. On this occasion the return working was booked for a diesel, with No. 44932 and support vehicle returning directly to Carnforth. Copyright John Whitehouse - all rights reserved
