Brazilian Satinwood is a naturally yellow wood that comes from South America. The Satinwood, when it is cut right, you can see the light move in the grain pattern as you move the box side to side just as on satin fabric. There are no stains on any of the wood that you see on this box. GOD did not limit himself to the brown tones when he made wood.
The type of wood is listed on the bottom of the box from the center out. On this box the wood is “Wenge” from West Africa, “Pink Ivory” from South Africa (a wood that is sacred to the Zulu tribe). “Black Palm” from Indonesia. (I cut this on an angle to give the black dots a different look) “Purpleheart” from Central or South America is a very bright purple wood. Then “Satinwood” from Brazil is used on the main part of the box. The Brazilian Satinwood has a more bright yellow color to it than the golden color that the satinwood from Sri Lanka has.

Many of these electricity boxes have been painted, they add lovely colours to the otherwise grey streets of the city.
While COVID-19 makes it hazardous to approach strangers; I have decided to start on this new project of photographing electricity boxes in Helsinki.

I can't quite keep up with the changes in scientific naming. Used to be cuora flavomarginata, then, I believe some sort of cistoclemmys, now... I believe it's something else. This is one of my males.
Two very new-looking lower quadrant semaphore signals numbered BS27 and BS33 at the southern of Banbury station, with Banbury South signal box behind.

My friend Jamila was fascinated by this Dutch box bike and asked me to take some pictures of it.
Taken from the Box Hill Community Arts Centre where we meet to spin and weave on Wednesday, Wednesday evening and Thursdays. I love the fence.
A few pictures I took while unpacking the Mystery Box cards deck designed by JJ Abrams with theory11. I love nice cards decks, and my brother is an amateur prestidigitator - I'm looking forward to sending him the sealed pack we got for him !
Wanna buy these cards ?
From the US : on the theory11 online store
From France : on the MagicDream online store
Kudos to Christina for encouraging me to look for national distributors instead of having the cards shipped from the US <3
Very rare Victorian Fluted Pillar Box vertical aperture, i've read there are only 10 of thse left now.
Same design was made in red and green. Made originally by Blaylock, iron founder, and later by W. Turner. Some kept the vertical aperture but by 1856 the horizontal posting hole was becomming more popular

Red box often found in rural locations in the UK. Consists of red metal and perspex or glass windows. Inside is an object mounted on the back wall with black plastic shaped like a banana with a metal wire leading from it and a some buttons with numbers on it.
Not sure of it's intended use, probably dates back to the last millenium. Possibly an abandoned urinal, or maybe a historical communication device.
