Worthing West signal box was located by the Down Main line alongside South Farm Road level crossing, and was a Saxby and Farmer Type 5 design which was opened in 1877 by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway. The signal box was renamed Worthing Central "B" on 5th July 1936. The signal box was renamed again Worthing "B" on 4th March 1968 and was further renamed Worthing on 30th December 1973 when control of Worthing station passed to the signal box after the closure of Worthing "A" signal box. Closure came on 4th June 1988 when signalling between East Worthing and Durrington-on-Sea passed to the new signalling panel in Lancing signal box, the level crossing being controlled by closed circuit television from Lancing signal box

This piece was my entry for Reinventing The Box, the conference exhibition at the second Ravensdale, in Olympia, WA in 1998.
This view shows the box with its black-and-white panels on the outside, and the open lid gives a peek at the more colourful canework inside. With the temporary sliding out of a few key aluminum pins, the entire box can be unfolded, laid flat, flipped over, and reassembled in reverse, to feature the colourful canework on the exterior, and hide the monochromatic panels inside.

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.
Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.
Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’
Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.

This is an early K6 type phone box on West Hanningfield Road in Great Baddow (UK) built and installed sometime between 1935 and 1952. You can tell this by the Tudor Crown' above the words 'Telephone'. Later K6 examples from 1952-1968 had the 'St. Edwards Crown' design.
Vandalised and neglected it looks like British Telecom have completely lost all interest in maintaining an important part of our heritage.
GB Railfreight Class 60, 60047 "Faithful" passes Plumley West signal box with the loaded 6E09 07:30 Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax Power Station working.
After a period of (enforced?) absence for the Class 60s on the cross-Pennine runs from Liverpool to Drax, they Brush brutes have returned in the last week or so. 60047 had been confined to the docks as the drawback engine, but was now able to stretch its legs properly over the hills to Yorkshire.

Afro-Brazilian religion is characterized by the syncretism of traditional African religions and Catholicism. These little boxes contain specially prepared formulas to mix with bathwater to ward against jealousy or the evil eye, or to attract love, prosperity, etc.

Minha linda Dal Fiori chegou!!!
Vou trabalhar e a noite eu abro ela^^
Minha Dal Fiori vai se chamar Frutilly, igual o picolé dos anos 80/90! Gostinho de infância!
Typical storage boxes contain your items, but the inside becomes cluttered – making it difficult to find what you need. Rubbermaid’s Bento collection is designed to organize items, rather than just store them. The Bento Boxes have internal flex dividers, which enable you to divide the space by creating unique sections when needed. Boxes can stack vertically, or fit inside each other. Bento Trays can act as trays or covers, providing an extra layer of organization for the Bento Boxes, or hiding what’s inside. The Bento Collection is made from sturdy materials, and the heavy-duty decorative fabric enables it to remain out in your social spaces while complementing your home’s décor.

Cupar box interior looking North towards Leuchars. Very tidy and containing a 32 lever frame. The train describer screen can be seen to the left of the big grey box on the block shelf.
Any info on the frame would be appreciated.
The height of the British summer,18th July 2012, saw me and my eldest set off from Nottingham for an Everton pre-season friendly at Dundee. What could go wrong ? Bhy the time we got to Edinburgh at lunch time the evening fixture had already been called off due to a waterlogged pitch !
I had arranged to visit my ex signal school colleague at Tay Bridge South where he was working the afternoon turn so I carried on regardless and pulled in two other boxes on the way.
These are the very grey images from that afternoon.

A presentation box for a canteen of cutlery, hand made from English Cherry with a book-matched Yew burr veneer on the top of the lid.
The slots to receive the cutlery were hand cut from plywood and upholstered in felt.
I used Brusso quadrant hinges to enable the lid to remain open at 90 degrees. To maintain clean lines on the box exterior, I used magnets to hold the box closed and created small dimples to assist opening.
The interior is finished with hard wax oil while the exterior is French polished with shellac.

Flat 20-sided tato box by......me?
Not innovative or useful really, but not bad for somebody who knows neither math nor origami and made this from scratch in Photoshop.
The flaps don't really form a nice circle in the center and there's that hole, so does that mean I should try shaving 1mm off the radius or learn to fold better?
CP for pointing out flaws, or storing a flat cookie if you have (the collapsed center touches the base, so spread your Florentine out VERY thin).
