An international railroad bridge over the Niagara River between Buffalo, New York, United States and Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. It consists of two sections. One is in this photo and takes the railroad between Canada and Squaw Island on the NIagara RIver. The other section to the right connects the island and the mainland over the Black Rock Canal. Both sections have a swing span to facilitate boat passage. The one pictured here on the right side of the bridge is no longer in use. The bridge opened on November 3, 1873.

I was not taking notes and unfortunately, the filters don't identify themselves into the EXIF data, but I believe this was through my B+W 6-stop neutral density filter and through a 3-stop Coking Graduated ND filter, and their P holder.

I have created a new collection of photos on my web site dedicated to the bridges in and around Buffalo: The Bridges of Buffalo.

Schachendorf - Bucsu, a small Border Crossing between Austria and Hungary. In former Times Part of the Iron Curtain, nowadays unmanned. Hungary is Part of the European Union now. Makes me wonder, why they don't tear down these Stations. Maybe they are not sure, if the Union works forever... the Station is also still present at the Austrian Side. I've uploaded this Image in original Resolution, to show you the Tristesse of this Place.

El Paso streetcar opened in 2018 with 6 restored PCC cars that were part of the El Paso fleet from 1950-1974 purchased from San Diego. They have been modernized with A/C and a handicap lift on the rear doors. Underneath the front doors you can see the "lifeguard basket" that deploys should someone get underneath the car that catches them before they would get to the trucks.

El Paso streetcar is currently a figure-8 loop serving downtown, two pedestrian/vehicle bridges to Mexico, and UTEP. The original 1950 -1974 line was a loop that travelled down Stanton Street, across the border into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and back up El Paso Street a few blocks west. Some of the tracks of the original alignment can still be seen today, such as on the Stanton-Lerdo bridge in the background (under the white van).

Rosh HaNikra border crossing

Rosh Hanikra was the location where Israeli and Lebanese officials negotiated and concluded an armistice agreement in 1949 which ended the Lebanese-Israeli component of the 1948 War of Israeli Independence. A border passage across the Blue Line into Lebanon at the site is sometimes used by UNIFIL personnel.

I knew my piles of unprocessed and unpublished photos grew quite a bit lately. I prefer to be out there shooting to sitting at the computer. But a quick scan of some photo folders revealed these queues going back about a year. Ouch!

So here's one from August of 2011, Peace Bridge over the Niagara River at sunset.

Location near a small Dutch-German border crossing. There is a restaurant here with a huge children's playground and there you will also find a jet plane and a helicopter that you can sit in.

Val Thorens located in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie, French Alps, is the highest ski resorts in Europe, at 2300 m altitude.

Given the high altitude of Val Thorens and the Glacier de Péclet the resort is often regarded as "snow sure". With the winter season lasting into early May and summer skiing on the glacier.

Many of its slopes face north and north-west, providing for good snow conditions. This means that the slopes are not as sunny, so the resort tends to attract a crowd more interested in skiing than "terracing." However, the resort itself faces south, and many people enjoy sitting outside in the sunshine when they have finished skiing. As well as a combination of 68 marked runs, Val Thorens also 5 terrain parks giving access to bordercross tracks, quarter pipes and jumps.

Val Thorens is the most international ski resort in France: more than 70% of its visitors are foreigners. While one will find people from all over the world in Val Thorens, British, Scandinavian, Belgian, Dutch and German tourists make up the majority.

Iconic terrace view from the equally iconic Victoria Falls Hotel . The view leads the eye from the Zimbabwe border to beyond the bridge into Zambia. A popular dinner is served onboard the steam train parked for 2 - 3 hours each evening on the bridge but does not go beyond the Zambian border during the food experience.

[EN] Checkpoint Charlie (or "Checkpoint C") was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War (1947–1991).

East German leader Walter Ulbricht agitated and maneuvered to get the Soviet Union's permission to construct the Berlin Wall in 1961 to stop emigration and defection westward through the Border system, preventing escape across the city sector border from East Berlin into West Berlin. Checkpoint Charlie became a symbol of the Cold War, representing the separation of East and West. Soviet and American tanks briefly faced each other at the location during the Berlin Crisis of 1961.

After the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc and the reunification of Germany, the building at Checkpoint Charlie became a tourist attraction. It is now located in the Allied Museum in the Dahlem neighborhood of Berlin.

(Wikipedia)

Taken during a flight in a Cessna 150 between Cornwall and Kingston, Ontario. Beautiful scenery and great weather throughout.

I got this back in February when I passed through Buffalo with my family. This was the most open view I could find of the Peace Bridge, Next time I might pack a saw...

The light show on this bridge is pretty cool to see. The colors are constantly changing, and they are nice and vibrant.

We lost Jess yesterday, she was 16yrs and 6months old and had been very ill for some weeks now, she was a loved family member and a friend. I shall miss her deeply, sleep well my friend.

Crossover Island emerges through fresh snow and broken river ice in this aerial winter photograph by Duncan Rawlinson. Nestled between the U.S. and Canadian borders, its red-roofed buildings and lighthouse are steeped in navigation history. Set against the glassy St. Lawrence River, the scene captures seasonal isolation and historical depth in the Thousand Islands region.

During 1952 the German engineer Fritz Fend (1920-2000) had developed his Kabinenroller into a small tandem 2-seater: the 1953-54 KR 175, which was succeeded by the KR 200.

In 1957 this KR 200 Kabrio was presented, which was followed by the KR 201 Roadster without window frames.

This microcar was built by the Regensburger Messerschmitt-Werk. When this company came into financial trouble in 1956, Fritz Fend took over the direction while the company was renamed Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH. Regensburg (FMR).

It's a long drive down a dirt road to reach the Canadian side of the border and this marker. The American side is to the left of the ditch. The ditch becomes a cut-line which extends up the mountain. Somebody has taken a shot or two at the marker.
