Good morning, and HBW to all you bokeh fanatics. Which prompted today's postings of a Monarch (Danaus plexippus) feeding on wild New England Aster (Aster novae-angliae) in my favorite field by the Interstate. And although this is similar to a posting of a week ago it's a completely different shot without a hint of over-exposure that was inherent in the other photo. I hope you enjoy my humble bokeh offering and that you have a HBW.
From Wikipedia...Bokeh (derived from Japanese boke ぼけ, a noun form of bokeru ぼける, "become blurred or fuzzy") is a photographic term referring to the appearance of out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field. Different lens bokeh produces different aesthetic qualities in out-of-focus backgrounds, which are often used to reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject.
Mike Johnston, former editor of Photo Techniques magazine, claims to have coined the bokeh spelling to suggest the correct pronunciation to English speakers, replacing the previous spelling boke that derived directly from the Japanese word for "fuzzy" and had been in use at least since 1996. It can be pronounced /ˈboʊke/ or /ˈboʊkə/ (boke-aay or boke-uh). The term bokeh has appeared in photography books at least since 2000.
Thank you for visiting...and I hope you have a truly pleasant day.

This is the beam from a 150mw laser across my living room. Its amazing how much dust is floating in the air.
This laser module is very powerful, you can actually feel heat when the beam is on your hand. It would without doubt cause damage to ones eyes !
Quite pleased with how this came out seeing as how I was holding the camera one handed using manual focus with a (fairly) shlow shlutter shpeed after 2 pints of Leffe Blond.
Shot at the Anchor Bar, Fisherman's Cove. They had so many of these all i could hear in my head screaming was "50MM" and "Bokehlicious". As an exception i found myself using shutter priority, i guess thats a necessity when you are dumb enough not to carry a tripod.

I received a fantastic box in the mail today! Amongst a lot of other cool stuff, Princess Domo found her true love!
Thank you, Hitty Evie!
Bokeh effect from thousands of lights in the trees along Bellevue Way on March 2, 2021 in Bellevue, Washington, USA
I rented a Sigma 85mm f1.4. Since I'm never really quite satisfied with the Internet's treatment of Bokeh, I decided to do my own. IMHO, bokeh is not really about what happens when the lens is all the way open, it is really about what happens as it gets stopped down. In this case, I'm very impressed. The light bulb has several rows of LEDs, so it creates multiple light sources. You can seen the edges of the aperture blades in the light. They're very clean and regular. Just like they are supposed to be.
I love this sparkling background :)

I'll post a picture of it some time.
