Body Mask (Det)
Asmat people, Ambisu village, New Guinea, Papua (Irian Jaya) Province, Indonesia, mid-20th century
The art and religion of the Asmat people of southwest New Guinea center primarily on the spirits of the recently dead. Nearly all Asmat subgroups celebrate, or celebrated, the mask feast, a series of rituals culminating when the dead, personified by performers wearing full-length body masks, return to visit the community. The rites involve two types of masks. The first, a single conical mask depicting a legendary orphan, appears as a comical prelude.
The second type of mask, seen here, portrays the dead. Each mask of this type represents, and is named for, a specific individual who has recently died. At the climax of the ceremony, the masked performers representing the dead emerge from the forest and tour the village, where they are offered food and hospitality. They eventually arrive in front of the men's ceremonial house, where the dead and the living join in a dance, which continues long into the night. The following morning, the dead, now properly fed and entertained or frightened by threats of violence, depart for safan, the realm of the ancestors.
CADET GERALD ALFRED BODY - ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY (679-681) - I knew my dad was in the Royal Irish Constabulary {Black and Tans}, but did not know he was injured until last week. He was the sentry on guard on the 11th of April 1921 outside the London and North-Western Hotel at North Wall Dublin. At about 8am with the dockers going to work the IRA infiltrated the workers and then attacked the hotel shooting my dad in the leg. He managed to get inside and raise the alarm. The RIC cadets and officers were mainly asleep and armed themselves in what they had on and attacked and chased the IRA soldiers. One IRA soldier with a bomb was shot dead. Two other were injured but were simply passing bye. Cadet Body {2nd Lieutenant of the Kent Buffs} was released from hospital on the 21st May. He joined the Royal Flying Corp and then the Royal Air Force serving his country in many RAF camps home a overseas. He retired as a Squadron Leader in 1958.
She looked like a linebacker on her Pukifee body, so I swapped bodies with my Resin Soul Yu, and I think she looks adorable!
