blue hydrangea with baby eucalyptus and sparkles

Tidied the outer plot and added new plants, namely Exacum affine (Persian Violet), Dwarf Tabernaemontana divaricata (Pinwheel Flower), and Ruellia simplex (Britton's Wild Petunia, Mexican Bluebell) with purple flowers.

This unusual Hydrangea was given to me in a pot as a gift. It's petals are variegated, and very pretty colours.

I have been away for a few days, so it will take me a little while to catch up with everyone's uploads. Happy Spring to all.

Cobalt Blue Pitcher Hydrangea Hand Painted. Very pretty hand blown blue pitcher with hand painted blue hydrangea. The glass has a swirl pattern on the inside. It measures a little over 7" high and is about 5" in diameter at the widest point. The capacity is 6 cups when filled to the brim, which is plenty for serving your beverages. It would also be beautiful filled with hydrangeas from your garden.

I don't think there is any magnification to the image with extension tubes. But it does allow for a really close 'lens-to-subject' working distance and a super-shallow dof. The focusing ring was, at most, an inch away from the petals.

all set up to continue with this painting project over the weekend...well, the weather is supposed to be wonderful and I'm looking forward to painting out in the garden :-D

Hydrangeaceae - Nepal to S. China

Blue Hydrangea

Shown: Inflorescence with mature buds and several opened flowers

"Dichroa is a genus of 12 species of flowering plants in the family Hydrangeaceae, native to eastern and southeastern Asia. They are deciduous shrubs growing to 1-3 m tall, with their leaves arranged in opposite pairs. The flowers are produced in a broad inflorescence similar to that of the related genus Hydrangea. The fruit is a glossy metallic purple-blue berry.

"Dichroa febrifuga (Chinese: 常山; pinyin: chángshān) is an important herb in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is considered one of the 50 fundamental herbs." (Wikipedia)

This is a pale blue lighted wine bottle that I have frosted. It has hand painted delicate blue hydrangeas with a sheer white bow around the neck. The white light strand inside gives this frosted bottle a beautiful warm glow.

trying to catch-up :)

This was painted in 2007 in my Brooklyn studio, in all natural, north light. This is painting of blue hydrangeas in a blue and yellow basket with antique vase, a yellow and blue Chinese cup, a yellow velvet drapery, with glass bottles in the background. All of these elements combine to create a harmony of yellow and blue and green.

Happy Playing Around Sunday!!

While searching for reviews on a program to complement Elements yesterday, I happened on a website with oodles of free and interesting - did I mention free?? - tutorials. One was on using textures and layers to create a kind of soft focus image with different color tints. While my effort didn't come out looking like hers, it was fun and I learned some cool stuff about inversion and selections - especially a way to change around a texture to make it better fit your needs!! Way cool.

I think the difference between mine and hers is that I began with an image with a dark background while hers was light.

These flowers are currently in bloom in our garden. With the exception of the Daisy and Hydrangea, of which there are several, the other seven...just one of them.
