So this is a detail of the picture you see below. I really like how this LOOKS like a painting, but it's just incredibly grainy and cropped. LOL Took this not this past summer, but the summer before, in Central Park, NYC (in the Conservancy). A little color and flora to brighten up a cold December day.

Azorica..latin, meaning from the Azores.
Green, green pastures surrounded by rough tumbling lava stone walls, that appear to grow out of the earth itself, teeming with unending clusters of lush hydrangea flowers in all imaginable tones of blues, pinks and white. (check out my blog for Azores images.. middleearths.blogspot.com)
This setting is the 'ex libris' of the Azores Islands (where I live and create MiddleEarths Jewels).
This necklace is the second of the 'Azorica ex libris' series...soft blue hydrangea flowers spilling over an earthy brown lava stone focal.
2 weeks ago tomorrow, one of 'the gang' lost her frighteningly short and intense battle with that cruel disease 'Cancer'... tomorrow we have to say goodbye. these are the flowers the rest of us have gotten her - I didn't get a card, so decided tonight to paint one for her - my final gift - I think she would have approved and I hope she likes it. :-(
A couple of days ago a neighbor lady quietly slipped in and out of my yard, leaving behind the surprise of this beautiful bouquet.
Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!
...pretty flower and it blooms around here when the summer flowers fade. In this way, the blue hydrangea invigorates the mind -- kind of an optimistic thought that I felt like sharing as we start 2014....

Continuing up the Haleakala Highway ...
After striking out in Makawao, our next stop up the mountain was the Ali'i Kula Lavender Gardens, a relatively small botanical garden clinging to the rough terrain of the volcanic mountain. As you can guess, they specialize in growing all varieties of lavender along with some other unusual flowers. I have always loved hydrangeas, especially the blue ones, and the shrubs growing here seem to thrive in the cool, foggy and misty climate.
The highlight of this stop was a snack in their little cafe, featuring tea and warm lavender scones - just the right thing for this chilly location. Maybe the funniest thing was a sign on the counter where all the condiments were located saying Please Do Not Feed the Birds. In front of which sat a bird feasting on all the crumbs!! ;-) By the time I got my camera ready, an employee had chased it away, but all of us had a good laugh!!
Worth a stop if you ever have a chance to visit Maui.
Happy Tuesday to all!!!
This is the last of them, I promise. At least for now, lol... looking through my folders, I have hydrangea shots out the kazoo! And, I took a couple more today... not even on my computer yet, so don't know whether or not there is a worthy "keeper". But, I've grown tired of seeing them, so I would imagine you are too... time for a break!
Coming right up, a photo for the weekend... WAY different, I promise :))
Our lovely neighbor insists on giving my husband some flowers for me when he walks by. I've been lucky to receive peonies, roses and these hydrangeas from his tiny garden. He doesn't speak English and we don't speak Chinese. We bow and smile, a lot. Everyone understands.
