not sure how that lens flare got there...

# 142 / 365 . . . Something I found a bit unusual in the Kirkbride Building was that some of the patient's rooms were fortunate enough to have a small sink to wash up, a mirror, a small soap dispenser and a paper towel dispensary. I don't know how certain patients were chosen and have no idea how they decided who gets the sink privilege. Not every room looked like this in the Kirkbride. Not everyone got their own sink. Or mirror. Perhaps this set-up was for a patient on his or her best behavior. Perhaps those who don't act out and take their medication like good men and women got to get a room with a sink all to themselves. At its peak capacity, there were over 2,400+ patients in the Kirkbride Building that was meant to house just 250. At almost ten times the standard capacity, I'm willing to bet well more than just one patient was housed per room.

I'm currently reading "The Haunted History of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum" by Sherri Brake. It's a very in-depth comprehensive look at the asylum and especially the historical data that has been handed down through the years. Unfortunately, I've not found any information on how the coin toss is won for the personal sink.

The dirt, dust, mold, paint peeling, ceiling flaking and debris and garbage strewn made this very real for me. In comparison to some of the rooms in other buildings, this was actually quite clean.

A bit better, The trim panel now has the ribs added and the holes which on the bus carry air through to the vehicles radiator. The big tab of plastic on the top has been left on to make the part easy to handle. You can clearly see in this picture just how much of the front has to be carved away to make way for this part.

Thought I'd have a flick through the Bempton shots...hope people think these three were worth an upload....Apologies for my lack of Flickr activity, I'll try and catch up with everyones awesome pictures :)

'Well, I don't want much

Oh, I just want a little bit

Oh, I don't want it all

No, I just want a little bit

Just a little bitty bit

Just a teeny weeny bitty'

~ We don't need everything just a 'Little Bit" something few or "Minimalist" means not very much. I decided to go with chopsticks. People in East Asia use chopsticks for most of their eating pleasures, using them to cook and eat. My daughter-in-law is Chinese, watching her using chopsticks is amazing. She cooks, stirs and even tears her meat with her chopsticks. I thought chopsticks are the ultimate "Minimalist" of utensils to use, I also the sushi went right along with the chopsticks for my photo this week.... ~

Do view Large and on Black.

A bit of a cliché but it was there and so was I. The brown water of the Bristol Channel forced this into black and white but I was going there anyway so it was no bother.

Better bigger and blacker.

bit of a / incredibly corny title here but it kind of fitted with Ruud's play on the night. he just kind of wondered around upfront, and often off-side, on his own. he did, however, score a cracking header, so we'll let him off. note johann cruyff sat (almost) directly opposite me.

i recently had the fortune to attend the Holland (Netherlands) v Russia game in EURO 2008 in Basle and what fun it was! despite secretly wanting the Oranje to win, Russia were bloody awesome and deserved it. don't know why van Basten insisted on playing van Persie on the right, but who am i to complain about a man that scores goals like this – uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fEqDd_nXnK8

8 Bit Balloons on the Fourth Plinth (One and Other) performance art in Trafalgar Square, London.

8 Bit Balloons is a construction of balloons organised into binary numbers. The letters of a message have been converted from their computer ASCII codes into binary numbers. Each group of 8 balloons in the binary code for a letter.

The balloons also have while LEDs inside them which can be seen in the closer shots.

Dungeness is a headland on the coast of Kent, England, formed largely of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. It shelters a large area of low-lying land, Romney Marsh. Dungeness spans Dungeness Nuclear Power Station, the hamlet of Dungeness, and an ecological site at the same location. Dungeness is one of the largest expanses of shingle in Europe. It is of international conservation importance for its geomorphology, plant and invertebrate communities and birdlife.

One of the most remarkable features of the site is an area known as "the patch" or, by anglers, as "the boil". The waste hot water from the Dungeness nuclear power stations is pumped into the sea through two outfall pipes, potentially enriching the biological productivity of the sea bed and attracting seabirds from miles around.

A bit of background on this photograph for those unfamiliar with Paraty (most readers, I assume). Paraty was built slightly under the sea level, and when there is a strong tide becomes a tropical Venice. When the sea retreats, there are plenty of water pool lefts to go around and make the most of your camera!

Practical information on Paraty from my blog: Destination: Paraty

------------------------------
