San Juan.- Al menos 16 haitianos fallecieron y 15 lograron salvarse tras naufragar un barco cerca del norte del archipiélago de Ábaco, cuando intentaban entrar de forma ilegal en el territorio atlántico de Bahamas, informaron este domingo las autoridades locales.
Los hechos tuvieron lugar la tarde de este sábado y se dieron a conocer luego de que varios residentes locales reportaran la existencia de cuatro cadáveres en la costa cerca del Cayo Man-O-War.
Tras la alerta se movilizaron tanto la guardia costera de Estados Unidos como las Fuerzas de la Real de Defensa de Bahamas (RBDF, en inglés) y otros cuerpos de seguridad y rescate, a través de mar y aire.
Los 15 supervivientes fueron rescatados seis millas de distancia (cerca de diez kilómetros) del citado archipiélago por un barco de la RBDF y, posteriormente, ingresados en el cercano hospital Marsh para ser sometidos a una evaluación médica y, luego, serán entregados a las autoridades de inmigración.
Varios buzos hallaron en el barco, en el fondo del mar, los restantes cuerpos sin vida.
De acuerdo a las autoridades el número de muertos podría ascender ya que la operación se encuentra aún en marcha.
Se trata del sexto barco de haitianos que ha sido interceptado por las autoridades desde comienzos de año.
El pasado 4 de enero un total de cincuenta y cuatro inmigrantes haitianos fueron detenidos en el mismo archipiélago de Abacos cuando intentaban entrar de forma ilegal en el territorio atlántico de Bahamas.
Las detenciones seguían a otras operaciones recientes en las que fueron arrestados ciudadanos del país caribeño.
Otros 124 haitianos habían sido detenidos en aguas cercanas a Nueva Providencia el pasado 30 de diciembre y 16 más el primer día de enero en la misma isla, donde se ubica la capital, Nassau.
Consecuencia de las últimas detenciones, más de un centenar de inmigrantes haitianos han sido acusados por un tribunal local de intento de entrada ilegal en territorio de Bahamas.

This original ink sketch was made in response to the written piece "Full," by Casey Plett, for our collaborative blog Gloriously Awash In Sin, while listening to her read from her McSweeney's column, Balls Out, at 116 MacDougal.
We lost our beloved thoroughbred mare today just 10 days short of her 31st birthday. Kelvy was a direct descendant of Man o’ War. This morning when I went to the barn to feed her she remained stationary in her stall. Her many years had left her weak in her hind end and she was having difficulty walking. It is always hard to make this decision. Joan has cared for her for the last 26 years. It was, sadly, her time and she will be greatly missed by all. Also of great sadness to our family is that as the sun sets tonight, for the first time in 25 years, Bit by Bit farm will have empty stalls. No need to go down at nine o’clock for night hay and a few carrot treats or to rise early for morning hay feeding. An empty barn and an emptiness in our hearts.

O intercâmbio, organizado em parceria pela Arpep e a Ong FASE, teve como objetivo uma troca de conhecimentos e experiências sobre agroextrativismo no Cerrado e diversificação da produção e dos mercados, com base no manejo e nas práticas agroecológicas na agricultura familiar.
Participaram do evento organizações como a Arpa Agroecologia, ou o CTA - Associação do Centro de Tecnologia Alternativa entre outras, todas membros do Gias.
