This was the site of an important battle in 1643 during the English Civil War, where the Royalists won their most crushing victory of the entire conflict and secured their position in the South West of England.

A breezy winter morning on Little Hump Mountain.

Our hike up to Little Hump Mountain began in the dark with a wet snowy kind of sleet pouring down and ended on top of the mountain at dawn with strong wind and snow mixed with sleet. At home it was 40 degrees and raining but the forecast called for temperatures around freezing and a dusting of snow in the highest elevations. Todays forecast for the highlands was actually right.

There were about three inches of snow on the ground by the time we decided to cal it a day.

The Hayfield ’20 Trees’ again, taken from a different angle….the village of Hayfield can be seen through the trees. The original of this wasn’t great as I’d shot pretty much straight into the low sun, but I quite liked it in black and white.

Hope everyone’s had a great weekend- I am 4 days into Sugar Free February and haven’t killed anyone yet, so all is well :)

Happy Smile on Saturday!

Bare trees and fog this morning and a temperature of 57F made December 1st feel like a warm spring day.

A mountainside along Utah Highway 12 is ablaze with aspens in fall color, while those in the foreground have already shed their leaves.

These exposed tree roots really fascinated me as they burrowed

into the ground like giant snakes. It felt like I was looking at something very

primitive and secretive, as usually these are completely hidden underwater.

May you have a beautiful afternoon..

I tried to identify these birds without luck, the closest I could come was the "Little Blue Heron" but I'm not sure that is what they are. They are water birds/waders and there were quite a few nesting and feeding at Lake Bella Vista when we walked there on Sunday.

Trees in Bibury, the Cotswolds, England. It was spring. The daffodils were out but the deciduous trees had not got their leaves. No idea what type of trees they are.

Taken moments after the willow shot. Saturation increased slightly. The light was not so warm looking in real life.

Lone tree on prairie with approaching storm. East of Bear Butte in South Dakota in Meade County.

Had planned on staying in Rapid City that evening, but the Weather Service was predicting up to two feet of snow and 60 mile an hour winds overnight, so headed further East, to Pierre, SD to avoid that.

Shot this photo on the way to Pierre, ahead of the storm. The wind was very strong. Had to keep my hand on the tripod to keep it from blowing-over.
