Just to the right of the camera is a sign that says "Santa Fe Trail crossed here". I don't know if this structure had anything to do with it. I have emailed the Morris County Historical Society, but have not heard back as of yet.
Edit: An email from the Morris County Historical Society says this: "You have triggered my curiosity, and I will check this out further. It is very close to the trail. I have identified the exact location, and I will make contact with someone in the area to see if I can find more information.
The Santa Fe Trail Association and the National Park Service are the ones responsible for locating the trail locations, and have provided the signs. The Morris County Road crew is the agency responsible for installing the signs according to the location map provided. In their research, they have not identified that building ruin as connected to the Santa Fe Trail active days in that area. But I will do some more checking, and let you know if I find out any further information."
We're having many foggy days in Vancouver this winter.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS AND FAVES, ETC. WHERE WOULD I BE WITHOUT YOU BUT "LOST IN A FOG" ♥︎
Sometimes it's unwise, if not impossible, to get down to water's edge. Such was the case here. I had only been to this location once before, in the fall. So, unfamiliar territory, fast moving rapids, a steep ravine and fresh snow. I didn't get to be 65 years old by being stupid or foolish. I stuck to the high ground until I found this lookout, of sorts. A different sort of composition, to be sure, but one that is no less intriguing for all that.
Many thanks to all who have taken the time to award, comment on/or select this image as a personal favourite. Cheers!

Woods
by Wendell Berry
I part the out thrusting branches
and come in beneath
the blessed and the blessing trees.
Though I am silent
there is singing around me.
Though I am dark
there is vision around me.
Though I am heavy
there is flight around me.

Eastern Moors, Bar Brook - Infrared Monochrome
Out for a walk to blow the cobwebs away this morning - the wind was bracing but the light was lovely - patches of sunlight gliding over the moor picking out trees in turn and skylarks singing. I soon forgot about the cold
The Little Red Schoolhouse at the Lost Villages Museum. Gusty winds brought plenty of leaves down this day literally changing the landscape of southern Ontario. A lot more bare trees now.

A wide, frontal shot of the Wallfahrtsbasilika St. Georg in Walldürn, Germany, on an overcast day. The impressive church features a facade constructed from reddish-brown sandstone blocks, accented by lighter stone pilasters and cornices. The central section of the facade has a prominent entrance with a dark wooden door, above which is an ornate niche containing a statue, likely of Saint George. Above this, there are two large rectangular windows with intricate grilles. The roof is dark grey, likely slate, with a steep pitch, and two smaller spires rise from the sides of the main roofline, each topped with a golden weather vane in the shape of a rooster and a cross. The sky is uniformly grey and cloudy. On either side of the church, several bare deciduous trees, likely pollarded plane trees, with distinctive gnarled branches, line what appears to be a street or plaza. In the background, other buildings of the town are faintly visible.
