Banff is, to quote Forrest Gump, is like a box of Chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. The mix of clouds, snow and sun on the mountains reminded me of that as I made my way around the top of Sulfur Mountain....freezing cold. But oh so worth it.

Alberta Bound .. Have a Nice Weekend Flickr Friends

At the top of the Banff Gondola, great views of the surrounding mountains. We even had some snow! This from our month long adventure around the West of Canada, from BC to Alberta, staying in an RV. Still very cold at this time of year.

We're in Banff this weekend. We took a small family vacation out here to celebrate my 50th birthday. The weather has been great, the scenery amazing, and the family time wonderful.

Before coming I took this "shooting blind" shot of Eva on a walk in Saskatoon with a plan to hold it low as if walking her in Banff.

All 3 of the pups are staying with a friend of ours and having a vacation of their own.

When I visited Banff in 2009, Lake Louise was almost totally frozen over. Although beautiful, it looked entirely different this time around with its turquoise water.

Banff is a resort town in the province of Alberta, located within Banff National Park. The peaks of Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade, part of the Rocky Mountains, dominate its skyline. On Banff Avenue, the main thoroughfare, boutiques and restaurants mix with château-style hotels and souvenir shops. The surrounding 6,500 square kilometres of parkland are home to wildlife including elk and grizzly bears. Wikipedia

PS Yes, we are on our way back home to Vancouver. Always such a stunning drive through the Rockies from Alberta to the BC coast

You know, I just realized that, by next Monday, I will have posted nothing but photos from this amazing Easter weekend 2014 day trip into the mountains for a whole month now!

And I still have so many more I want to post!

It feels good, since about a year ago, I lost a hard drive which I had foolishly not backed up that contained basically all my photography up until July 2013, and I was only able to retrieve maybe 1/3rd of the images. I keep meaning to take it for in data recovery!

Anyways, thank you all so very much for your support of these mountain images I have been posting, the wonderful comments you guys have been leaving me on them has been so encouraging to me!

This particular shot was taken from the Cave & Basin Protected Ecosystem in Banff National Park, Alberta, from one of various overlook spots located along the long, switchback filled path down a large hill to this beautiful marshy area you see pictured here. It was an absolutely perfect early spring day to be in the mountains, just glorious!

The snow capped peak near the center of the range here is called Mount Cascade, and I am not sure of the names of the other peaks!

Hope you are all having an excellent week so far, my friends; I can't believe it is almost the weekend again!

I cannot but always admire this mountain in whatever season when I look down the main street in Banff. You have to pick your moment to stand in the road to take a good shot.

Cascade Mountain is a mountain located in the Bow River Valley of Banff National Park, adjacent to the town of Banff. The mountain was named in 1858 by James Hector after the waterfall or cascade on the southern flanks of the peak. The mountain has also been called Stoney Chief, which is related to the name of the smaller neighbouring mountain Stoney Squaw, which is still in use. Cascade is the highest mountain adjacent to the townsite.

The Fairmont Banff Springs, formerly and commonly known as the Banff Springs Hotel, is a historic hotel located in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The entire town including the hotel, is situated in Banff National Park, a national park managed by Parks Canada. The hotel overlooks a valley towards Mount Rundle, both of which are situated within the Rocky Mountain mountain range. The hotel is located at an altitude of 1,414 metres (4,639 ft).

During that five minutes between dusk and total darkness is magical for capturing light and color not possible any other time. This is the Banff hotel in Alberta Canada. The clouds rest low enough to capture reflected light from the hotel.

I was in Banff taking photos of these majestic mountains the day photographer Matt Snell was tragically killed climbing one of them .

I can understand his passion & love for these awesome landscapes.

This image is more of a tourist snap shot but I was in awe of the view from the top of Sulphur mountain.

Info about the Banff Gondola and Sulphur Mountain:

The eight minute gondola ride goes up the impossibly steep mountain side. Then, 700 metres in elevation gain later, you are on the summit of Sulphur Mountain high above the town of Banff. From here, you can see six different mountain ranges stretching into the horizon.
