The post is always there but the 9 rocks balanced on the top are not. I wish I could claim credit for this masterpiece of rock balancing but I can’t. I watched from our window whilst a man on the beach took around an hour to build this. When I went out to ask i him if I could take a photo, it turned out he was from Liverpool and he’d been perfecting his craft and teaching others for over four years. We were hoping that the sun would appear central to the hole before it set, but sadly the elevation on this evening was all wrong. It still looked quite spectacular all the same. It seemed as shame to see it being dismantled but seemingly he always puts things back has he finds them on the beach before he leaves, mainly for safety reasons should the rocks fall on anyone.

Someone has climbed this small waterfall while creating these balanced rock sculptures. This particular one features a single feather from a Steller's Jay.
Placing and balancing this would have been treacherous.

I have always loved this wee early picture of Asha, I think she is so cute looking here. I never uploaded it before as It was just taken with a wee compact plus I wasn't sure what people would make of the odd angle of the ball on Asha's head. As I'm doing a wee series of Asha's balancing acts I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to include this. I can guarantee that Asha is actually balancing a ball on her head here. I don't know how she managed to hold it on her head at this angle as it looks impossible but I assure you she is balancing it on her head.

A new week and a new challenge for me this weeks theme Balance. My first image a stunt motorcyclist carrying out at hand stand whilst jumping between ramps. The flags indicate the edge of the landing ramp. South of England show Ardingly, West Sussex UK taken in 2013.
There were several large trees on the beach of Lake Superior, which most likely were washed there by the Presque Isle River.

Finding balance is always a challenge in life. Sometimes, we grow a bit heavy one way, a bit thin another, and sometimes our paths are chopped away completely. This was taken from the Big Oak in Thomasville, GA. The Big Oak dates back to circa 1680, which makes it one of the oldest live oaks in the country.

This Burrowing Owlet is just getting his air wings and exploring farther from the nest. Owlets seem to be more curious than adults and are interested in exploring their environment and testing their flight abilities. I’ve only seen owlets attempt to balance on the ropes surrounding their nest holes. This little guy walked over to this palm frond and flew to its apex but had a hard time getting any “footing” slipping and sliding until it had enough fun and made it back to the nest. (Athene cunicularia) (Sony a1, 200-600 lens @ 436mm, f/6.3, 1/800 second, ISO 400)
This Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) seemed to struggle to gain its balance as it landed on the berry cluster rather than the branch.

Always amazes me how they are able to balance on such small, unsteady things.
