Jay and I were in Bahrain for two and a half years while I was teaching at the Bahraini Air Force. I arrived in January of 1989 and we ventured onward to Dubai in the middle of 1991. We lived in several locations during our time on the island.

Two friends fish along the shores of Bahrain's capital city, Manama.

I started travelling internationally right after finishing college when I took a teaching position in Kuwait. Over the decades of my career, my partner and I have continued to work in or explore different parts of the world. More recently, since taking early retirement, we manage to spend around five months away during Canadian winters.

I kept track of all the places with a blogged list. In 2018, I decided it would be useful to find a single, personal image to represent each country I've visited. I have put these into a single Flickr Album. A photograph may occasionally be updated if we have a return visit.

These are organized alphabetically. You should be able to go forward or background from the image's main page where you can also see the names, and dates. In most cases the EXE date is correct. Some images may have been scanned and dates approximated.

I happened to came across a rare opportunity to see actual colors at sunset in Bahrain where it is clear sky 99% of the time here. I only have my old Galaxy S7 phone with me and took several JPEG shots to form this Panorama image.

I've been M.I.A for awhile but I will be back and start taking real pictures again after the New Year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Bahrain Financial Harbor (commonly abbreviated as BFH) is a large-scale commercial development project, currently under construction in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The commercial complex is located next to the King Faisal Highway, near many popular landmarks such as the Bahrain WTC, Abraj Al Lulu, Pearl Roundabout and the National Bank of Bahrain. Majority of the project is being constructed on reclaimed land. The two tallest twin-towers (Commercial East and Commercial West) are currently listed as the tallest completed towers in Bahrain, with a height of 260 m (853 ft) with 54 floors.

Qal’at al-Bahrain is the most important archaeological site of the Bahrain archipelago and, very probably, its ancient capital during Antiquity. Qal’at al-Bahrain is much more than a single fortress facing the sea: the late Islamic/Portuguese defensive building (hereafter the Main Fortress) which crowns the site (and has lent its name to it) only represents the latest architectural testimony of a long and illustrious history.

Bahrain National Theater opened in November 2012. Built on an area of about 12,000 m2 overlooking the sea, the 1,001-seat theater is located next to the Bahrain National Museum. Its unique architectural design and wood-covered interior walls draw inspiration from the tales of 1,001 Arabian Nights.
