Van Oord in The Netherlands has announced that its new backhoe dredger Goliath is now operational. Goliath is a Backacter 1100 – an excavator with three spud poles fitted to a pontoon – and is believed to be the largest hydraulic dredger in the world. It will be used to dredge ports and provides services to the offshore industry worldwide.
Goliath can be equipped with a grab that holds 25-40m3 of material and can work at a dredging depth of up to 26m. It has a total power output of 5,000hp.

On March 6, 2006, I walked by a grandmother and grandson who were watching the construction of the Hoover Business Building at Elizabethtown College. I was touched by the boy's love for construction tools and asked to take his photo. His grandmother assented.
When this boy goes to college, I will probably have been teaching for quite a while. Will I be his professor one day?

A backhoe, also called a rear tractor or back tractor, is a piece of excavating equipment or digger consisting of a digging bucket on the end of a two-part articulated arm. This parked backhoe was near a construction site in Robina, on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Jim Wight called Bill up to tell him that he had found an Ford Backhoe that was in really good condition and was at a really good price. Bill took it on and there started his Backhoe Contracting business.
It was cheap enough for Bill and Val to be able to ease their way into business without having to leave a paying job straight up.
Funnily enough Bill didn't get to go into business with it because Jimmy Genochio spotted and was looking for an older backhoe to a customer of his. Bill and Jimmy came to a price and it was gone.
