In the exercise, five golf balls are placed in a sandbox. The bucket on the backhoe is fitted with a special spoon-like attachment, and the operator must use it to pick up the golf balls and place them in canisters that vary from three to six inches in diameter. The operator must complete the exercise within three minutes. It simulates the precision required to remove material from the end of a pipe culvert or other drainage structure without damaging it.
