A buddy had his driveway washed out by a big area storm and this was used to move rocks into place and build up a rock wall and spread new gravel. It would be fun to play with but costs $400 per day. Better play fast!

Trying to use a backhoe as a crane. The backhoe is tipping forward.

... the last of the pilings that supported the parking deck finally come out of the river.

I got lucky... I happened to be riding by in the morning before work.

People have told me that this final operation was delayed by high water and fast current conditions that made it impossible to safely operate this beast on the barge in the middle of the river.

Remarks/comments:

Bread and Butter Stream Cleanup 11/5/16: We have perfect weather to work with over 50 volunteers as we completely filled 5 dump trucks with trash and debris we removed from the stream and the surrounding fields behind the shopping centers!!! This included 185 bags of trash, 26 boxes of rotting food from behind Sava-A-Lot Grocery Store (in the field next to J.D. Byriders Fence), a huge file of trash in the middle of the field, 5 couches, 4 shopping carts, 4 broken mirrors, 2 dressers, 2 headboards, 2 mattresses, and much more but best of all – we even caught someone dumping in the stream not 15 minutes after we completed our cleanup! We did call the police on this individual and they gave him a $1,500 fine!!!Thank you everyone so very much for all your incredible hard work under such tough conditions! Our volunteer’s dedication of working toward a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment is without equal! Thank to everyone who volunteered with us today.

We would also like to thank the Ocean Conservancy, American Rivers, National Public Lands Day and Trash Free Maryland for all their assistance and support on this cleanup. We also wish to thank Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet for donating donuts, Tradepoint Atlantic and Walmart for your generous donations allowing is to purchase much needed supplies! We would also like to thank Towson University Women’s Soccer and the community for all the incredible volunteers they supplied! Thank you also to Baltimore County Highways for supplying us 5 dump trucks and a backhoe when their roll off dumpster truck broke down this morning!!! Their help was invaluable with all the furniture we removed!

Men At Work (Backhoe Operator) . 1413 North Main Street . South Boston, VA . Friday evening, 16 June 2006 . Elvert Xavier Barnes Photography

Located at 1413 North Main Street and built before 1910 by Samuel F. Gilliard this Queen Anne style residence with a Colonial Revival influence was included on the South Boston Walking Tour. See www.oldhalifax.com/county/SBWalkingTour33.htm.

A litle more than a year ago, when a fire would destroy its upstairs attack, a tarpaulin was placed over the hole in the roof. Having remained empty and unrepaired, eventurally, the tarp blew off and after more a year of rain flowing inm the house became so infected with mold, that the town condemned the building and ordered its demolition.

When on Friday morning, 16 June 2006, that I would began my photo walk along North Main Street, in South Boston VA with hopes of capturing South Boston Historic District www.cr.nps.gov/nr/travel/VAmainstreet/sou.htm two 'men at work' were in the process of demolition.. Later that afternoon when I would return from the photo walk the 'backhoe operator who was still at work would inform me that the demolition process would be completed, perhaps by Tuesday. Having taken a picture of the contractors sign, I said that I would send copies of the pictures to them. I'll check further with my friends and contacts in South Boston to learn more about this piece of property. And each time that I visit South Boston, in the future, I'll photograph, doucment, record and capture the rebuilding process of the new property. North Main Street . South Boston, VA . Trying to do more Tilt Shift post-processing of pictures. This is a backhoe doing construction outside my office building

An update to one of my favourite childhood sets, the 6662 backhoe. The set is a great classic town vehicle, but with the newer larger scale vehicles, I felt it was in need of an update.

Inspired by the work of Pierre Normandin, Richard Brown, and Martin Jaspers

Here I am playing with a rented back-hoe, working on our waterfall project in the backyard.

The summer project that never ends! I have been working on this since May! There is an upper falls, lower falls, short stream, and a cascade; all ending up in a pond at the bottom.

We are hoping that the waterfall will be finished before the temperatures drop below freezing. My biggest problem right now is the wimpy amount of water flow; in spite of the fact I have two pumps rated for about 3000 gph each at this head height. It looks like I will need another pump rated at maybe 20,000 gph to get the flow I want!

The real way to fight traffic in mid town.

On March 6, 2006, I walked by a grandmother and grandson who were watching the construction of the Hoover Business Building at Elizabethtown College. I was touched by the boy's love for construction tools and asked to take his photo. His grandmother assented.

When this boy goes to college, I will probably have been teaching for quite a while. Will I be his professor one day?
