Company Terra BiH handed over the latest model of a JCB backhoe loader to the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a period of 6 months to support Bosnia's government efforts to restore livelihoods in the areas most severely affected by recent floods and landslides. The John Deere 400 was the industrial line version of the 2020 agricultural model tractor, and are very commonly seen with front loader and backhoe attachments. They were built 1965-1971, and this one still works today for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, NM.

The “Roadeo” is an annual event held in each of the NCDOT’s 14 divisions across the state to test the safety awareness and skill level of NCDOT employees who operate heavy equipment. They engage in friendly competition with their co-workers to determine who can best maneuver a dump truck, tractor, backhoe, low-boy trailer or motor grader through obstacle courses or assignments that model real-life scenarios that maintenance crews encounter each day on the job.
The overall goals of the “Roadeo” include helping NCDOT workers advance their skills, emphasizing the importance of safety when operating heavy equipment, fostering a sense of team spirit, and recognizing employees who excel at their jobs.
The Division 9 winner in each category will move on to compete against the winners from other NCDOT divisions in the statewide “Roadeo” in Raleigh, July 21 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
The water and sewer lines on Church St. in Stirling are being replaced. Today the work arrived in front of my house.
This is a one and on-half week assignment (to get us back to Sunday due dates). The goal is to celebrate tools. Tools and their use are arguably the basis of life as we know it. Almost every object in our lives is a tool; everything from a hammer or kitchen knife to a camera, computer or bulldozer. For this assignment, pretty much everything from a still life of a hammer or knife to a dump truck or the space shuttle is acceptable. Tools in use are fine and in context great; but the tool must be prominent and obvious. As always, wall grade art is what we strive for.
I'm hoping that you will pick a tool(s) that makes an obvious difference in your life or else which portrays a concept that is important to you. If you are a carpenter, hammers, saws and such are important. If you are a cook, knives, pots, stoves, etc. are important. If you are a programmer, I don't know how to take a picture of your editor. If you are a photographer, clearly the camera is iconic. I'm hopeful that we do not end up with 50 pictures of cameras. Anyway, you get the picture (pun intended.)
What it Took. Obviously not much. I was unable to properly light and stage my initial ideas to present as a still life, so this is a fall back.
Toronto was host to the World Dragon Boat Championships.
In order to accommodate the race, the City had to move the break wall out about 5-10m. This backhoe is actually on rubble from the old break wall. In the distance you can see the new one.
One of the reasons for leaving it there? The City had several of these things STOLEN. Hard to steal a backhoe from the middle of the lake :)
Didn't have time to take Pancake to her favorite park to play today so she romped around yet another construction site next to the bank. We have to always remember to wash her paws and put her paw protector on afterward since the limestone and sandstone tend to irritate her pads and eyes. We use this stuff called Protetex Pawz MaxWax which helps. She just got groomed yesterday.
The contractor spray painted these poles so no one would run them over. It's a frequent occurrence here. These are a little brighter than the blue ones.
