The Story

McLeod Ganj is located at 1770 m above Sea Level.
The town is located 4 kms by foot( 9 kms by car) above Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The town is a major tourist hangout and also features many trek shops for the Dhauladhar Range. You will also find friendly Tibetan monks, western food, budget hotels, video movies and congested shops selling Tibetan Souvenirs.

Mount Rainier National Park
It was sights like this one that made me jealous of folks who live in Seattle. Who wouldn’t like this iconic mountainous backdrop along their daily drives? Mount Rainier was truly like a sleeping giant radiating its calm, gentle, but convincing presence.
A relaxing but quite spooky stroll through the mist filled woods at Tandle Hills this evening.

My Tandle Hills set.
From the Eastern approach to the city, via the Story Bridge.
Hard to believe that this city and much of its surrounds were buried under 4.6 metres of water for a number of days.
Although the vast majority of the damage has been rectified, there are still many factories, houses and businesses, that will never ever re-open.
I have included a link underneath, should you wish to view aerial footage on an interactive site, taken prior to and during the floods. Just move your mouse over each photo, right to left..

An event at the Organ Pavillion provides a nice backdrop to the El Cid Statue in San Diego's Balboa Park.
The El Cid Campeador statue was created in 1927 and dedicated in 1930. Copies of the statue exist in other cities, including Buenos Aires, New York City, San Francisco, Seville, and Valencia.
El Cid, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar was a Castilian knight and ruler in medieval Spain. Fighting both with Christian and Muslim armies during his lifetime, he earned the Arabic honorific as-Sayyid ("the Lord" or "the Master"), which would evolve into El Çid (and the Spanish honorific El Campeador ("the Master of the Battlefield").
I initially tried this with my wide angle lens but liked the effect of stepping back on getting a tighter shot with my 135mm lens.

I have been continuing to evolve my backdrop building idea using it as filler for a planned industry on the layout, the Demeritt Cannery. I got the idea from another builder to mix up the colors to add texture and I'm pretty happy with the results. My portion of the layout at club displays sometimes has what I call "construction pits" or areas where I have a foundation but no completed structure. Alex typically has enough extra construction equipment handy to make the scene make sense. Since he won't be at this next show I have to get my act together and complete something!
A quick-to-assemble and (when disassembled) small-in-your-car DIY backdrop frame, shown with a bedsheet (size "queen" sheet) wrapped around it.
PVC tubing purchased at, and cut to size by, my local Home Depot (my local Lowes would not cut PVC for me).
Parts List
$2.08 each - 3/4" x 10' plain end PVC (x3)

$0.30 each - 3/4" 90 Degree Elbow (x4)
Total cost for the frame (with tax) was $8.65
Four 2" binder clips (already had those) are used (two on top, two on the bottom) to help pull the sheet taut. These should be around 35¢ each.
Final size is around 6'10" tall and around 4'9" wide. The idea should be able to be adapted to use other sized sheets too ("full" flat sheets should work using more clips, a slightly larger frame for "king" sheets, etc.).
