We have been on a camping trip for 8 days, wish I could say we enjoyed evry day of it but we had alot of rain and did not get to take alot of pics like I would have liked. These a took this morning on our way home. This field of beautiful wildflowers was growing just dow the road from our campground.

The earliest evidence of a Christian presence on this site in Bourton-on-the-Water goes back as far as 709AD when a wooden church was built on land donated by the local king, centred to the Abbey of Evesham.
1110 AD saw the construction of the first stone church of Norman design. Since then there have been several changes of appearance. Under the chancel (the east end of the church), there is a twelfth-century crypt, said to be connected by a tunnel to the Old Manor House across the High Street.
The only visible part of the old church is the chancel, built in 1328 by Walter de Burhton. The church was then dedicated to St Lawrence, a fourth century Christian martyr; his story is recorded on a window-ledge near the organ.
A drawing of 1780 shows the church with a central tower, between the nave (where the congregation sit) and the chancel. It shows the 'Clapton Aisle, where the present porch is located; this was for residents of Clapton on the Hill during the period when their own ancient church of St James' was for a time derelict. However, in 1784, the Norman church was largely replaced with one in the neo-classical style, with a new heavy tower with clock and bells, still standing today.
Further change came in the 1870's with the construction of the present nave, followed by the North Aisle and St George's chapel, now containing memorials to the dead of the two world wars of the twentieth century. This Victorian legacy includes the nave roof, said to be one of Gloucestershire's finest examples of a king-post roof.
The twentieth century also left its mark with a fine painted ceiling in the chancel, and the ornate oak screen, separating the cancel from the nave. A very fitting contribution from a local poet and artist was added to the west wall at the time of the Millennium.
Today the parish Church remains the focus of a lively worshipping community in the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, extending a warm welcome to visitors.

Woops! got some of the photograper in this one. Original dated June 13, 2010, and my feet were much improved by the foot surgery over a year ago now -- April 10 of 2009, to be exact. Before it, my toe next to the big toe on the right foot was flopped up and on the big toe. I can't wear flipflops because the big toe and the next one to it are just too close together, but I've discovered a sandal that's surely enjoyable to wear in warm Alabama summers. Im a huge fan of old stone churches so when Aimee www.flickr.com/photos/aimee_nipperess/ put up on facebook that this is the church she was getting married in i went for a nice drive.
The church was built in 1864 and is currently a hotspot for weddings. Within metres from the church is another room which is available for the reception which is always stunning to look at . A stunning location for Aimee's special day.
Was very hard taking these shots with a umbrella in one hand as it was flogging down and camera in other arm with painful elbow . Needed a tripod but too lazy to get it.
So, I was reviewing my Flickr stats and I noticed that I never got back to the story on this picture, like I promised. And in order to tell the story, I decided I needed this picture.
I had picked as a random destination on the Plains the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve just outside of Strong City, KS. Little did I realize that the "prairie" is actually in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Anyway, this is the sunrise from the welcome center-type area at the Preserve. Actually, I climbed the hill that the Big House sits on to get this shot because -- unbeknownst to me -- the welcome center was still under construction.

So this was what I got for the sunrise. Kind of "meh" but indicative of the place. And while it looks clear, the rest of the sky was covered in a cloud layer. And that's where I'll pick up the good part of this story.

Reuben Lucius Goldberg (b. July 4, 1883 – d. December 7, 1970) was an American cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer and inventor.
He is best known for a series of popular cartoons depicting complex gadgets that perform simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways.
