3978 leads 15 cars back to Topeka, near Alpha, IL about 20 miles north of Galesburg.

I'l have to go back to Melbourne next week ...

Quote is from AC/DC’s Back in Black

A classy and high-quality expression of the traditional Greek Retsina from Gaia Wines.

Written on the back of the photo, "Left to Right: Lizzie, Mrs. John M. Elias, Henry Sawatsky, Anne Elias Peters, Mary Elias Sawatsky, John, Uncle John M. Elias, Tina Elias Janzen."

J. C. Penner's mother was Anna Elias, and she had a brother John (b 1874), who I think is the Uncle John Elias in this photo. He had children named Elizabeth (b 1907), John (b 1912), and Tena (b 1909), and Tena married John Janzen.

Henry Sawatsky (b 1896) married Uncle John's daughter Mary (b 1897), and daughter Anne (b 1903) married Henry Peters. Uncle John's wife was Mary Braun (b 1874).

Low German (Plattdeutsch) was the usual language within the Mennonite families and community, so they were usually known by the German form of their names: Johann, Maria, Heinrich, etc.

From the J. C. Penner archives.

I think this one is my favourite. Beautiful.

I'm back on board after being awol from flickr for a couple of days.

Both items in the photo, each with two parts, are the same. But what are they and what are they used for? Note that the small pieces of plastic are irrelevant being used merely for display purposes.

Your best guesses and answers on a postcard please!

Pictured here is 3035 (LV73 FDO) on the C3 at Earls Court Tesco of the first day back at Abellio, these look really nice on the route and hopefully a E400H can stray onto the route for some nostalgia.

A Brown Bear finds a handy tree for a back scratch. The tree didn't look so good when he got done!

NATURA CLASSICA / PROVIA 100 F

the gristone outcrop of Back Tor is an impressive jumble of rocks situated at the northen end of the derwent edges where they run into the howden moors. It's typical dark peak country: boggy moorland, pools, rocks, and a great feeling of wilderness...

Distant, but fantastic to see my first male Red Backed Shrike at Cley Marshes Nature Reserve. Apologies for the background noise of a plane, people and the breezy weather.

After filling the spur to Escue Wood Preserving in Millwood, local CC1 starts its way back east to Cecilia. They packed the track full with the three cars they brought here including leaving one tied down across the road just short of the derail.

Our short chase west following this local was an enjoyable time and certainly left hopes for a return trip to the PAL. With rain moving in and plans to chase the WTNN the next morning, we broke off after this location and proceeded on our way across western Kentucky.

I used the lovely red birds from Lush Uptown for the back. I quilted diagonal lines through all of the x blocks, and did three lines in some sections.
