Europe's only airworthy B17 Flying Fortress, "Sally B", taxi-ing at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.
After finally making it back from Sawyers River with the snowbound Crawford excursion that had to turn back there the crew has put the train away and is now in the process of MUing the two two GP38s to be ready for a storm clean up day on Monday.
Conway Scenic 252 drifts light down the main past the station platform headed to the south end of the yard. This EMD GP38 was built in November 1966 for the Maine Central Railroad as part of an order of 13 of the model which were the first batch of second generation diesel locomotives purchased by the road. This unit was the last of the thirteen in service on MEC successor Guilford Transportation, lasting more than three decades, and having seen her other dozen siblings retired and scrapped or sold. She came here in March 2010 along with GP35 216 in a trade with Pan Am Railways for FP9s 6505 and 6516 that would become Pan Am's OCS power.
At right is the splendid Victorian/Russian styled depot built in 1874 by the Portsmouth, Great Falls and Conway Railroad. under lease to the Eastern Railroad became a part of the Boston and Maine Railroad in 1890 when it purchased the Eastern. The B&M continued to run scheduled passenger service until 1961, and beginning in 1932 dedicated ski trains were run from Boston as the sport of downhill skiing gained in popularity. The very last snow train arrived from Boston in February 1972 ,and on Halloween day of that year the last local freight departed south and the B&M abandoned 22 miles of the branch south to Ossipee. Meanwhile the depot had been saved by a group of local businessmen in 1968 who later purchased the rail yard and the northernmost 7 miles of the branch to found the Conway Scenic Railroad in 1974.

Back in September of 2014, SOO 6061 was running around the area pretty consistently with CP 6241. Here, the pair is seen on H19 at Weaver West, booking for Lakeview to meet trains until the sun went down. I haven't caught it leading since this, and it would be great for it to run in good light again soon so I can have a second chance with more experience with the camera.

Black-backed Sibia has a simple two-tone plumage but is a striking species nonetheless. It is a member of the Laughingthrushes and allies family (Leiothrichidae). This individual was seen near Thailand’s highest point, in Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai province.
Looking back on some of my summer shots. Can't wait for some better weather and an end to grey days and rain!
Dames Cave is a 1.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Brooksville, Florida that features a cave and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The Dames Cave area is located in the Citrus Tract portion of the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County, Florida and are found on a western portion of the Brooksville Ridge physiographic region. This landscape is dominated by karst landforms including uvalas, dolines, solution valleys, and caves. Geologically, the caves are among the oldest in Florida.
The entrance trail to the Dames Caves is located off S Lecanto Hwy. Quite possibly there will be several cars already parked there, as these will be the only indicators that one of Florida's most unique and oldest cave systems is just a short jaunt off of this straight and narrow farm road. Parking is free, but is at your own risk, mainly because there are no designated parking spots. A short half-mile trail leads off into the Withlacoochee State Forest.
Once again, no trails are marked, but heading directly east will bring you to the opening of one of the most popular caves. Surrounded by several concrete posts and heavy gauge wire, the opening to Vandal Cave appears before your eyes. One of the best spot for pictures, this cave opening is actually an ancient roof collapse. Part of the roof is still connected and creates a land bridge that can be easily walked across by daring individuals. A small side cave allows access into the inner cave system. Once inside you can see why it is called Vandal Cave. Graffiti and other damage can be seen throughout, explaining why this cave system is so hard to find. Other smaller caves branch off from this Vandal Cave and range in a variety of difficulties of exploration from simple head ducking and flashlight exploring to belly-slinking and crawling through tight spots in the mud.

OK, a few weeks later and I was back at Durikai with a new perch! :) Call me obsessive. The usual suspects were all there but this one showed up for a drink too. There was also a Spiny-cheeked HE but I only got a shot of its rear as it vamoosed and there was a White-eared HE but the shots of it are very harsh so I'll try for better there.
There were the usual Speckled Warblers out the back and a black-faced Monarch and more White-eared HE. It is a great spot but I hope I don't find more days of shooting there! (Until spring 2016 when I know I went back). :)
One of the many things I enjoy about tramping is the opportunity to look back on the ground you have covered the previous day(s).
On this 6 day tramp, we travelled from the Cobb valley to the Aorere valley, via the Douglas range in Kahurangi National Park . Part of the route we took is unofficially known as the "low route" as it bypasses the most difficult section of the Douglas range known as the "Dragons Teeth".
This photo was taken as I look back at the low route. We descended into this (Anatoki) valley on one of the distant spurs on the right and camped on the river flats in the bush. The next day we made our way up the river to the headwaters and bush bashed on a compass bearing to this saddle and Adelaide tarn. This was all untracked travel and one of the better days tramping I have had.
