The hillside near the lighthouse was blooming with fireweed when I stopped here a few weeks back.... Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest on the OregonCoast and has the same design as the Pigeon Point Lighthouse in California.
"Made in Paris in 1868 and shipped to Oregon, Yaquina Head Light was first lit August 20, 1873, and automated in 1966. The lighthouse still uses its original 1868 French-made, 1st order, Fixed Fresnel lens, visible 19 miles out to sea. In 1993, the lighthouse was listed in the National Register of Historic Places." - Wikipedia

Today I visited the Costco warehouse in Orange County. It was very crowded despite shoppers all wearing masks. Who would have thought this photo I took 5 months ago was entirely opposite?

It's been months since my last visit to Japan. People are more energy conscious now, I see alternate lights switched off. The city skyline is not as bright but by and large it's the same. Great to be back.
NS P25 arrives back at Barber Junction after working on the L-line around Mocksville with a pair of sadmiralized SD40-2s on a warm Friday afternoon.
In some pristine early afternoon light, southbound Q241-24 rolls under the B&O signal bridge at North Cairo behind a four banger of matching CSX EMDs. Leading the way is SD50 #8533, followed by SD40-3 rebuild #4041 and two other SD50s. I couldn't think of a better way to break my month long Flickr hiatus than with this, especially at a time where getting solid EMD lashups is exceedingly rare.

The white in the middle of the canal is a couple of swans and their 7 young.

While while we were visiting the Portal area of Arizona, this bird was the subject of all the buzz by the birders in the area. A pretty rare visitor north of the Mexican border, this Streak-backed Oriole was being sighted fairly regularly at one of the local feeding stations. The first day we visited...no luck. We went back the next day and after about 20 minutes he made his appearance. The shot in comments shows how this species got its name.
Neither shot thrills me in terms of quality, but as a life bird and a rarity, I had to post them.
Mercedes-Benz Citaro MB51 CB51BUS sits by the Dog & Badger in Medmenham, displaying old Carousel route X80 which it occasionally ran on alongside the allocated Streetlites and E400s.
The bus was on a run back from Reading after happily passing its MOT!
The Orange-backed Troupial ("Icterus croconotus") is a big orange and black oriole species found in Brazil, Guyana, Paraguay, eastern Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru.
It is often found foraging in groups for fruits, insects and other arthropods. It also feed on flower nectar.
During nesting period it often pirates the nests of the Yellow-rumped Cacique.
This area of the Bear Lake Valley always seems prehistoric to me. The hills rise abruptly from the valley floor along an earthquake fault and storms seem to bypass this flat so that it is often nearly snow-free in winter and dry in summer. Even so, snow and ice accumulate on the road surfaces causing very slick driving conditions. Snow will soon be very deep in the hills and deer will migrate to this area where they can find food where browsing is easier.
The dappled sunlight on the water coming through the trees was amazing indeed!!
Got the GKids again today.. So as it is very hot out there - It's back to Rivelin to have a paddle, a picnic and have a dip in the plunge pool!!

Pelecanus rufescens
This bird spends most of its time in Africa and Southern Arabia. An adult Pelican will eat up to 4 pounds of food per day.
91107 captured climbing past Holloway with 1D09, the 1003 King's Cross to Leeds. A return visit to this spot to get the train and location better lit.
I'm very sorry for the inactivity the last weeks. A toothing baby, Christmas preparations, making photo calendars for 2024 and a lot of other things kept me very busy lately.
And there is no better way to come back here with one of my signature photos from the local woods.
