The KiMo Theatre is a theatre and historic landmark located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was built in 1927 in the extravagant Art Deco-Pueblo Revival Style architecture, which is a blend of adobe building styles (rounded corners and edges), decorative motifs from indigenous cultures, and the soaring lines and linear repetition found in American Art Deco architecture."
It has one of the most interesting facades of all the vintage movie houses I've seen.
The blackened rear wall shows clear signs of the 1981 fire that ended its operation as a theater and resulted in the current interior, which contains a small courtyard.

The D&R Theater was built in 1923/24 by Ed Dolan hence the D in D&R. The original decoration was Adam in style with delicate plaster ornamentation and crystal chandeliers. The auditorium held 5 large chandeliers and 8 boxes, 4 on either side of the balcony. The walls were decorated with northwest logging and forest murals.
The original seating capacity was 1500. There is a large stage and 2 floors of dressing rooms. There was also a large pipe organ that accompanied the silent films. Vaudeville was the original main entertainment at the D&R.
The lobby had 2 large chandeliers and more murals with wicker furniture on the mezzanine level. The original exterior had a metal cornice on the top of the building, a simpler marquee and a box office built into the lobby between the entrance doors.
The original box office was on the outside of the theater but was built into the wall between the entrance doors like the 7th St theater. The current box office is actually the 3rd one to grace the theater. The current marquee is also the 3rd one. The original was quite simple, but there was a verticle blade sign running down the front of the building and there were no verticle stripes on the front.
During the 1930's the theater was remodeled, all the boxes were removed the plaster ornamentation was reduced and the whole building in and out was painted. The marquee was replaced and the versicle stripes seen on the outside today were added. During the 1940's the seating was replaced on the main floor, now about 1200.
The whole interior and exterior was again re-painted and the marquee was again replaced with the one that appears today. The box office was also replaced with the current free standing one we see today. Nothing much happened with the theater except lobby paint up to the closing in the 1980's.
Once again on Thursday, June 7, 2007, we lounged around the timeshare, enjoying the sun on the patio. Then Carl and I took a cab to MGM and ate lunch at Wolfgang Puck's. We crossed the strip (overhead bridge) to the Tropicana and viewed the "Bodies" Exhibit. We quickly returned to the resort by cab and changed clothes. Carl and I took a cab to the Mirage and attended the show, "The Beatles - LOVE", by Cirque du Soleil. Afterwards we took a tram next door to TI (Treasure Island) where we had a quick supper and enjoyed an interesting show at Kahunaville and did some late night shopping knowing that we would be leaving in the morning.

"TELL LAURA I LOVE HER ( The Musical ) " was performed during 1st - 4th of July 2009 . However it lacked suitable original music to complement its old song material and possessed a much too corny a plot together with other inconsistencies to impress.
Laura was advertised as a new rock' n' roll musical play but it was hardly that : it would have required a complete re-write to appeal to the wider public. Though its publicity flyer suggested it was the 2007 copyright of Richard C Hague that assertion would have been impossible to prove.

The Work's Artwork and Logo are Copyright - 2007 .
The 1960 death disc styled hit song "Tell Laura I Love Her," was written by Jeff Barry and Ben Raleigh and first recorded by Ray Petersen a young and popular American vocalist . Later that same year a recording by EMI Columbia England's own young vocalist Ricky Valance was issued .The Ricky Valance version's issue followed the U.K. Decca Record Company's abandonment of its intended issuing of the Ray Peterson recording in reaction to hostile public criticism of the song's lyrics .
The ArenA has 3 box offices, when it's busy people have to wait outside of the building as there is no clear waiting area to queue up. Behind the box offices are special machines where you can pick up and pay for pre-ordered tickets.

Top left shows George Chakravarthi's work being exhibited in Swan Room. The work in light boxes is reminiscent of stained glass windows but the coincidence of eclectic juxtaposing of ancient and modern seen side by side is so close to the architectural observations I am offering.
Bottom left; This is what you see as you come in the main entrance. The shop and Box Office area with campanile on right and 30s bar and theatre entrance on left. The flat arch in the distance is the other entrance, indicating this internal route running parallel to main public footpath forming the main town circulation.
