Paramount, Box Office, Seattle, USA

On the lower level of the GE Building, along the north hallway of the Rockefeller Center Concourse near the 6th Ave end is this ticket booth. It was built as a secondary box office for Radio City Music Hall, which is located about 100 feet north of this booth. Across the hallway from the booth is a door that leads to a tunnel that runs UNDER 50th Street to the Music Hall. When the Music Hall and the GE Building (then known as the RCA Building) were originally built, this box office was intended to be used to take some of the burden off of the Music Hall's own box office. Since this box office is connected by an underground tunnel, patrons would not even need to go out in the weather to buy their tickets and go to the show. I don't know when it ceased to be used, but as you can see, it's still there.

The stairways on either side lead to a tenant storage room directly behind the box office.

God you can almost smell the confusion.

The box offices' walls are made of plastic (vinyl) transparent foil. Monitors hanging from the ceiling on these spage age, fabric columns, show what films are playing.

An overview can be seen in this panorama.

Designed by Adler and Sullivan. Taken on a Chicago Architecture Foundation walking tour of the south Loop. According to our guide, the box office lobby used to be larger, but was cut down in the 1950s when Congress Parkway was widened.

The KiMo Theatre is a theatre and historic landmark located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was built in 1927 in the extravagant Art Deco-Pueblo Revival Style architecture, which is a blend of adobe building styles (rounded corners and edges), decorative motifs from indigenous cultures, and the soaring lines and linear repetition found in American Art Deco architecture."

It has one of the most interesting facades of all the vintage movie houses I've seen.

The blackened rear wall shows clear signs of the 1981 fire that ended its operation as a theater and resulted in the current interior, which contains a small courtyard.
