Is it a common or lesser? These little guys for many years were regular winter visitors to the garden.
Sadly they and the siskins stopped coming several years ago.
it was therefore a nice surprise to see this lovely bird and its companion.

Herons don't usually oblige me with photo opportunities, but this year seems different.
This one however wasn't made popular by the moorhen. Presumably she had chicks nearby and didn't appreciate the heron dropping in.

Swift moon.
I waited ages for the right moment this evening, my patience was rewarded.
To get this shot, I had to select the narrowest aperture I could (f29!), keep a high shutter speed & crank the ISO right up.
The Swifts flying over my head rarely went directly across the moon, which was much smaller than it looks here.
Passing villagers thought I was mad!
These little beauties were clearly ready for breeding , but surprisingly no nest sites were evident.

As I was walking along the Thames River this grey heron appeared from behind a large tree. This image was the only opportunity before it flew faraway.

After a four year absence I finally made it back to this iconic reserve for a great day out.
The Gannet is surely Bempton's signature bird. Looking every bit like something from prehistory. They are however a beautiful and elegant bird.
This one was busy collecting nesting material whilst practicing it's John Cleese walk.
The northern gannet is the largest of the gannet family and native to the Atlantic Ocean.

What a delight to experience the first few moments of this newly born pup.
Donna Nook now accounts for 1.5% of the world's grey seal population. The work of the wardens and the wildlife trust, is therefore crucial, for the future of these lovely animals.

Stay safe
Taken yesterday at RSPB Greylake in Somerset, UK.
It was moving at over 100mph here, and within seconds had caught and killed a Teal in mid-air!

There's nothing better than watching barnies on a summer evening.
Both this lovely female and her partner were out hunting, so there must be several mouths to feed.
