Ollie had spent quite a while eating his lunch just out of sight. Suddenly he popped up for a sneaky peek.

Our latest star attraction.
Having seen at a distance a lone otter and then a mum and cub at our local jetty we were very pleased with our sightings.
Little did we know what was going to happen when we went into the local town.
This young dog otter was kind enough to provide us with over two hours of entertainment on consecutive days.
This shot has not been cropped as the otter came so close to me. I was actually concerned he would get onto the nearby road, but fortunately he turned round.
Whilst I still have several hundred pics of Ollie and Scar to publish, I have a suspicion this as yet unnamed young man will dominate my feed for sometime.

Eurasian Jays are usually very shy. My experience and encounters with them are more likely by chance or probably where they nested.
Referring to my observation of animals behaviour and food scarcity at one of my usual location shoot yesterday, this particular Eurasian actually came over to ask for food, about 12 feet away. I was very surprised and decided to play it cool pretending not to know its presence whilst feeding the squirrels. However, this Eurasian Jay would moved towards wherever direction I looked at and tried to get my attention. It was actually begging for food. Of course I threw a groundnut over and sure enough it was picked up.
This bird then flew to a nearby branch, cracked the shell and ate it. The brief moment also confirms my observations of the changes in animals behaviour and food scarcity in the bush ecosystem. It actually gave me a nod just before it flew off as if to say thank you. A very interesting game but experience, lots of photos taken during this time for my coming series.

What a pleasure it was to spend a few hours in the company of these gorgeous beauties.
It's amazing what a difference a year makes. On my last visit I was due to have surgery with an uncertain future ahead of me. This year like the pups I feel reborn. Donna Nook is a truly magical place.
Donna Nook now accounts for 1.5% of the world's grey seal population. The work of the wardens and the wildlife trust, is therefore crucial, for the future of these lovely animals.

My first real opportunity to take a picture of a Scottish red.
This little fella was one of two beauties who allowed us a lovely view of them.
Numbers in England have been devastated by the arrival of the american grey squirrel. However in Scotland they can still be found in good numbers.

Our new local celebrity.
I have named him scar as he has an open wound on his neck and an older injury on his flank.
Although the neck wound looks nasty it doesn't seem to be impeding him unduly. While we watched him he caught numerous fish so he certainly is capable of hunting.

Following on from yesterday's inflight series here is one of the highly attentive curlew mother.
The more you get to watch nature the more you learn.
Last year I watched the ring plover parents frantically calling to draw me away from their young chick. This year I have seen this bird perform a similar routine on several visits.
Only the lapwings have been successful thus far this year in hiding their young from my camera.
Let's hope her chicks are successful in surviving as curlews are currently red listed in the UK.
