Ein Niederdruckrotor wird in den Gehäuseunterteil einer Dampfturbine eingelegt. Es handelt sich um eine Dreizylinder-Kondensationsturbine mit einer Leistung von 50 Megawatt.
1956 entschied sich die BBC, im Birrfeld auf grüner Wiese eine neue Grossmontagehalle zu bauen und so einen Befreiungsschlag zu wagen. Im Vordergrund der Prüfstand für Turbinen, im Mittelgrund die fast fertiggestellte Wohnsiedlung und im Hintergrund das beschauliche Dorf Lupfig.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of a guided tour of the Clifton Rocks Railway (Thanks Nicky & Maggie). This is one of three similar rooms at the bottom of the railway that was used by the BBC as a recording studio during WW II. It was sopping wet, and as you can see the floor has disintegrated. Hard to imagine BBC types in dinner jackets & bow ties broadcasting to the nation from within here.
