Woke up early this morning in time for a quick trip to Avoca to catch the sunrise. The sky changed colour so quickly as the sun came up over the horizon. I liked the more subtle tones of this one before the sun broke through.

In the last two days we have all been enjoying the sight and sounds of three young Tawny owls that emerged from our neighbours nest box. Adult birds are always present and a mouse was offered to one young, but it went to sleep standing on it!! ....... ate it later.

The wake behind my boat (I bought it on Craigslist and have been teaching myself for 4 years, slowly, to navigate the waters here safely and to fix things on the boat). Lots of metaphors come to mind - path, staying on track, where we came from (recent and eons ago), where we are going, etc. But, immediately, an illustration of Flatland came to mind. Those of you who may not know the curiosity of trying to think in fewer or more dimensions may not know about this multi-faceted, clever work from 1884 (click on the link for more info). It has both social and scientific thought implications and is quite interesting from both perspectives. Anyway, I thought about the surface of the water as a two dimensional plane strange it would appear to something that lived in two dimensions only to suddenly see the shape of the cross sections of a fish or seal suddenly pop up and spread out of seemingly nowhere. I guess that I was mesmerized by the wake, but I stayed on the right sides of the navigation buoys! The overcast day was perfect for boating.
