Awake and Sing, Final Dress, Directed by Scott Kaiser at Santa Clara University

Surviving cancer and using art as a tool for healing, reflection and understanding has infused my art with a sense of energy and optimism that has a universal appeal. The process of making the art as well as the meaning of it, are both an integral part of the end result and for me there is always a battle to harmonize between the two – to evoke the emotion of the piece and to empower the viewer.

I love combining traditional and new media painting techniques where one feeds off the energy of the other. The visual collaboration of both medias often celebrates a bold expressionism and optimistic edge regardless of subject matter.

My work has evolved from a mashing of referenced pop art and iconic imagery into elaborate multilayered portraits and scenes that depict a more personal interpretation of my life experience, battles and passions. My goal is to lead the observer to dramatic action, putting them on the edge between what we know and what is unknowable. I’ve learned that something new will always come about when you push hard enough and the result is the revelation of a “new identity”.

The motivation for me to keep going is to gain an understanding of how this “new identity or rebirth or truth” actually reflects my life as well as the world we live in – or not.

We arrived at Koalafornia and several Koala's were actually awake!

The new year brings renewed hope and a chance to start fresh.

Now is the time to begin again...

Year 3, Day 194

[Total Consecutive Days: 924]

Birdie and I decided to sleep on the couches in her living room and when we woke up this morning, the most beautiful light was flooding in through the windows. I ran upstairs and grabbed my camera to take a picture while Birdie grumbled about her bad morning looks. :)

One of the most alert babies I've ever seen. His eyes are open, he's wiggling around and taking in everything around him. He's quiet too! Hardly a peep out of him. Oooh and I helped change his second diaper ;)

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes

I struggle to find any truth in your lies

And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know

This weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all

But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall

Lend me your eyes I can change what you see

But your soul you must keep, totally free

Har har, har har, har har, har har

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die

Where you invest your love, you invest your life

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die

Where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul, awake my soul

Awake my soul

You were made to meet your maker

Awake my soul, awake my soul

Awake my soul

You were made to meet your maker

You were made to meet your maker

I promise I'm done uploading for a while :P

My original photo from today that I used for my Cubomaniac picture.

I took this picture while I was awake, so that is why it is called Tina Awake.

You can see that I am smiling. That is because I am thinking about True Friends.

The ocean splashes against a rock tower along the Marginal Way coast in Ogunquit, Maine. This image reminds me of the power of the sea and the nature of being awake in the moment.

Yeah, I'm well past the point of awake. Right on down the road to overexcited

Tarsiers are small animals with enormous eyes; each eyeball is approximately 16 mm in diameter and is as large as its entire brain. The unique cranial anatomy of the tarsier results from the need to balance their large eyes and heavy head so they are able to wait silently for nutritious prey. Tarsiers have an incredibly strong auditory sense because their auditory cortex is very distinct
