“Be awake enough to see where you are at any given time and how that is beautiful and has poetry inside.” - Jeff Buckley

Surviving cancer and using art as a tool for healing, reflection and understanding has infused my art with a sense of energy and optimism that has a universal appeal. The process of making the art as well as the meaning of it, are both an integral part of the end result and for me there is always a battle to harmonize between the two – to evoke the emotion of the piece and to empower the viewer.

I love combining traditional and new media painting techniques where one feeds off the energy of the other. The visual collaboration of both medias often celebrates a bold expressionism and optimistic edge regardless of subject matter.

My work has evolved from a mashing of referenced pop art and iconic imagery into elaborate multilayered portraits and scenes that depict a more personal interpretation of my life experience, battles and passions. My goal is to lead the observer to dramatic action, putting them on the edge between what we know and what is unknowable. I’ve learned that something new will always come about when you push hard enough and the result is the revelation of a “new identity”.

The motivation for me to keep going is to gain an understanding of how this “new identity or rebirth or truth” actually reflects my life as well as the world we live in – or not.

We arrived at Koalafornia and several Koala's were actually awake!

Photo Evaluation

Composition: In the image's single center of interest is the shoulder which is located on the top left hot spot. As you look at that hot spot, the rest of the shoulder aligns itself to the top horizontal sight line. The collar also takes place in the hot spot, followed by the rim of the shirt takes use of the right vertical sight line.

Grade: 4/5

Depth: The image contains all levels of depth. The foreground is composed of the front of the shirt. The mid ground is composed of the shoulder and neck. However, even if the background has no center of interest, it was left intentionally black so it contrasts against the blue of the shirt. If something were to be in the background, it would've distracted the viewer from the main center of interest.

Grade: 4/5

Processing: The processing in this photo was done on purpose to enhance the details of the shirt, allowing the colour become more vivid and bright. Adding a darker contrast to the neck area increased the depth of field in that area (making it look more 3-dimensional) since it was not as contoured before processing. The background was darkened purposely to add balance and value in the image. The main center of interest had the more processing done pro contrast to make it look more defined.

Grade: 5/5

Subject: This photo was intended to portray the details in simple ''fashion''. For example, you can take a simple cotton shirt and photograph the fibers and strings, because of such details, the ordinary cotton shirt becomes an interesting subject. The angle in which the photo was taken also gives an unusual view on someone wearing ''just a simple shirt''.

Grade: 4/5

One of the most alert babies I've ever seen. His eyes are open, he's wiggling around and taking in everything around him. He's quiet too! Hardly a peep out of him. Oooh and I helped change his second diaper ;)

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes

I struggle to find any truth in your lies

And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know

This weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all

But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall

Lend me your eyes I can change what you see

But your soul you must keep, totally free

Har har, har har, har har, har har

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die

Where you invest your love, you invest your life

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die

Where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul, awake my soul

Awake my soul

You were made to meet your maker

Awake my soul, awake my soul

Awake my soul

You were made to meet your maker

You were made to meet your maker

My original photo from today that I used for my Cubomaniac picture.

I took this picture while I was awake, so that is why it is called Tina Awake.

You can see that I am smiling. That is because I am thinking about True Friends.

The ocean splashes against a rock tower along the Marginal Way coast in Ogunquit, Maine. This image reminds me of the power of the sea and the nature of being awake in the moment.

Yeah, I'm well past the point of awake. Right on down the road to overexcited

This is daddy's technique for getting Charlie to sleep...basically, the only way he can get him to fall asleep. He does this by holding Charlie out in front of him and gently bouncing him up and down.
