I've wanted to take pictures on this dock for the longest time, but every time I went there was some fisherman or a bunch of hooligans. Finally there weren't so Melanie and I took some nice pics. This took me so flipping long to expand and edit but that's life. Melanie is leaving for college tomorrow so it was great to take pictures before she leaves, and we're talking more with Makayla today! I can't wait to see what we come up with. :)

I am planning to take off all the batteries in my cameras this weekend. Some of them were left with batteries in them way too long. Hopefully, I'll be shooting with dead meters mechanical cameras till I get bored. OM2/XA/XA2/F3 will be resting for a while :-)

The Silvereye/Tauhou is native to New Zealand.
I've been watching this pair of Silvereyes over the last five days. This is another photo from day one. They had been spending all day and all night together in a particular part of a particular tree. The smaller one, on the right here, is not 100% well or is weak. It feeds but not often. The other silvereye on the right, will feed, but speedily returns to sit by the weaker bird.
I had assumed they were a male-female pair. But a third silvereye often joins them and his markings are much brighter, a more striking yellow under the chin, so more likely a male. I now think this is more likely two females. Possibly the mother and a juvenile from last year.
The good news is that today (Sept 4th) they both fed and the little one on the right seems to have improved. And tonight they left to sleep elsewhere - a good sign.
The really odd thing is that this time last year, in the same part of the same tree, there lived a trio of silvereyes….
