Cremorne Lane and Crown Point depot onto the Wensum avoiding curve at Norwich

Norwich Thorpe station was shut for the Easter weekend to allow resignalling and track rationalisation to take place ahead of electrification

The queue to enter this palace was really crazy from morning to afternoon. It was so long.. it looked like an endless snake. As there was no barrier to structure the line up, so many people jump-queued whenever there was a gap in the line. In fact I had tourists appearing in front and behind me out of nowhere. All they did was to ask the people in front of me some general questions and pretend as if they knew them and started to blend in. Tourists like me who queued up most probably thought that they were friends however when I actually understood the languages they are speaking in and their intentions, that made my blood boiled a bit haha but I decided to keep calm and carry on :) Just sad that these people simply have no courtesy and manner to queue. Sometimes holidays do get me into a bit of a whingy mood lol!

Anyway you most probably think that this place looks pretty quiet in this shot but honestly it was packed & I have to wait quite a while for the right moment to avoid anyone in the foreground ;)

47 222 Appleby-Frodingham on the avoiding lines at Newcastle Central with a southbound cement working

Newcastle

During the time of the coronavirus pandemic and social (physical distancing), early morning became my ecological niche to enjoy life while avoiding contact with other people. Although it would have been most obvious to take pictures of places without people and practice the Japanese art style of absent motifs (留守模様), nothing drew me to anything human.

I preferred nature and particularly trees that became my personal obsession of that time. Whenever looking at these different trees, there always came a quotation from the ancient Chinese Daoist philosophy of Zhuangzi to my mind 是不材之木也,無所可用: “It’s not a timber tree, there's nothing it can be used for” ―― except of course for enjoying it just as it is …

However, I think that there is more behind the tree pictures than Zhuangzi’s typical praise of uselessness. Eventually, I became aware of a state of mind I never thought of as a possibility, but that became appealing: Biedermeier. Although I had never thought of Biedermeier art as anything other than "stuffy" or "boring," I could suddenly understand the concentration on the domestic and the non-political, the longing for stability, security, honesty, modesty, decency, sobriety, a simple elegance. I am also able to empathize with the predilection for everyday life and its details, ist tranquility and coziness. Am I becoming Biedermeier’s best friend?

Finally, I have to ruminate over a quote from a philosopher of the Biedermeier age who died from a pandemic of that time (Cholera):

“History is not the soil in which happiness grows. The periods of happiness in it are the blank pages of history.” (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel)

February 9th. Getting it in early. I call it photography, he calls it avoiding emptying the dishwasher. No forks were posed in the taking of this picture. Shot straight from dishwasher!

This little male can be pretty aggressive.

He has showed up in his mom's new territory.

Most of the time he stays about a half mile away in what used to be his mom's territory.

She pretty much avoids him.

One of his siblings has no trouble giving him the "boot" and chasing him out of there.

The fox with the white mask definitely dominates him.

I haven't seen that one for several weeks now and that always worries me.

Avoid demonizing television, computer games, and new technologies. Electronic media may compete for kids' attention, but we're not going to get kids reading by badmouthing other entertainment. Admit that TV and games can do things books can't.

Lots of crab movement on the low tide at the edge of the mangroves. This small, reddish crustacean was on a decaying log revealed by the tide.

We started late to avoid the worst of the morning chill, but ended up being the last car in the parking area at the end of the day. Although only 6 km's return distance, with a gain of only 700 m's, it took us 5 and a half hours to complete because we had to break trail for most of it...

I usually try to avoid HDR photos, but sometimes the scene necessitates it.

Why Does It Always Rain On Me

Travis

I can't sleep tonight

Everybody's saying everything is alright

Still I can't close my eyes

I'm seeing a tunnel at the end of all of these lights

Sunny days, where have you gone?

I get the strangest feeling you belong

Why does it always rain on me?

Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

Why does it always rain on me?

Even when the sun is shining I can't avoid the lightning

I can't stand myself

I'm being held up by invisible men

Still life on a shelf when

I've got my mind on something else

Sunny days, oh, where have you gone?

I get the strangest feeling you belong

Why does it always rain on me?

Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

Why does it always rain on me?

Even when the sun is shining I can't avoid the lightning

Went into the city this morning to shoot the storm that was predicted. Was really hoping for some fork lightning, but only got blanket lightning instead.

Thank God for Jeffrey St Wharf and the cover it provided.

My first time getting waterfalls coming off the Harbour Bridge though, so gotta be happy with that.

This is also my official first image with my new Sony A7r5, so again, thank you to Sony Australia for that.

Hope you like "Why Does It Always Rain On Me"

Cheers, Mike

I've been looking at all my contacts photos for like, hours.. and i've gained some inspiration. Haha, I don't know what inspired me to do this though.. my stomach?

Tell me what you think, and be honest. I like honest people :)

See you later gators!

Lingyin Temple (simplified Chinese: 灵隐寺; traditional Chinese: 靈隱寺; pinyin: Língyǐn Sì) is a Buddhist temple of the Chan sect located north-west of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The temple's name is commonly translated into English as Temple of the Soul's Retreat, which is a literal translation of the Chinese. It is one of the largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples in China, and contains numerous pagodas and Buddhist grottoes.

The monastery is the largest of several temples in the Wulin Mountains (Chinese: 武林山; Pinyin: Wǔlínshān), which also features many grottos and religious rock carvings, the most famous of which is the Feilai Feng (Traditional Chinese: 飛來峰石窟; Simplified Chinese:飞来峰石窟; literally: "the peak that flew hither").

According to tradition, the monastery was founded in 328 AD during the Eastern Jin dynasty (266–420) by an Indian monk, named Huili in Chinese. From its inception, Lingyin was a famous monastery in the Jiangnan region.

During the Cultural Revolution, the temple and grounds suffered damage at the hands of red guards, but the students of Zhejiang University tried to protect the temple. The temple managed to avoid large scale destruction partly because of the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai.

Today the temple is thriving as a destination for both pilgrims and tourists. It is regarded as one of the wealthiest monasteries in China, and regular pilgrims have included former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping.

The Wuling Mountains area is a major centre of Chan Buddhism in south-eastern China. A number of smaller temples are also located in the area. Today, Lingyin and the surrounding areas are marketed as the Lingyin-Feilai Feng Scenic Area, with ticketed admission.

During RSPCA Week we want people to spare a thought for the many thousands of animals needing the RSPCA's help each year and, in particular, for anyone thinking about getting a pet to consider the responsibility they are taking on before doing so.

One of RSPCA's key campaigns is the FIVE FREEDOMS:

Freedom from hunger and thirst

# by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.

Freedom from discomfort

# by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

Freedom from pain, injury or disease

# by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

Freedom to express normal behaviour

# by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.

Freedom from fear and distress

# by ensuring conditions and care which avoid mental suffering.

This image was taken in the Northern part of the Black Forest region in Germany. The day I took it we had thick fog and I just loved the mood of the place. I used my Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens here with a circular polariser and took several vertical exposures using a mounting rail to avoid parallax effect.

The emu Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the largest bird native to Australia and the only extant member of the genus Dromaius.

It is the second-largest extant bird in the world by height, after its ratite relative, the ostrich. There are three subspecies of emus in Australia. The emu is common over most of mainland Australia, although it avoids heavily populated areas, dense forest and arid areas.

I avoid the temptation to take pics of cheesy hay bales, but when I woke up this morning and saw the sky starting to light up I knew I was headed to Cheeseville. I had a quick wander, found a half empty field and took some shots. As I was leaving a tractor pulled in with an empty trailer to load up the last of them.

This has to be one of the weirdest looking critters I've ever photographed. I think it's a leafhopper nymph a positive ID off anyone would be great! It was very small and a thought it was a bit of feather on a leaf until I got the MP-E lens on it. You couldn't really avoid the black background on these images like you can in the UK as the overall area was generally fairly dark. Either way you can still make out the crazy critter!
