Living in Florida, there are pockets of storms, but running to the sunshine is usually not far away.

The two immature Bald Eagles left the ice on the surface of the Mongaup Reservoir together and came close to colliding while doing so.

True Story

For my friends and family who know me .... a shot is something that I avoid at all costs..even at the age of 52.

My friend Red, God rest her soul, when she was alive would often laugh about taking me to the dr. to get my shots when I went overseas for my 16th birthday. She had to practically carry me out of the office all the while yacking at my about how embarrassed she was that she, this little bit of thing, had to hold this 5'10" gangly girl up because I kept passing out. Her sister still laughs about that story to this day.

A few years later, I had to be carried out of a mall when I got my ears pierced.....so for me to hold the arm out and get the shot and actually walk out of the office on my own accord...well flowers just make you feel good ...right??

So for my dr's nurse Pat, who understood that a) I started to hyperventilate at the walk in clinic the other night and had to leave as I felt myself going down for the count and b) letting me come into the dr.'s office today on my way home from work so I wouldn't have to be embarrassed and c) for giving a great shot....this photo is for her. Thanks Pat! And just to show you how grateful I was, I actually booked an appt. to get all my shots up to date this month ... something everyone should do.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek. I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments however, awards and invites aren't necessary.

While I normally strive to avoid cars, trucks and other vehicle when capturing images of roads, highways or streets...this setting seems perfect to see how it might just compliment the setting. It wouldn't be just a road with tall trees and amazing mountain peaks all around, it would be a drive in the beauty of nature around. Anyone seeing this image could image those in the trucks and cars soaking in these views while driving through Yoho National Park. The size of the vehicles also give a perspective to just big the peaks and trees are in this part of the Canadian Rockies!

Real thing in Ireland, farmers won't remove these old tree circles as they were know as Fairy Forts. When in fact there the remnants of old Ring Forts....have a look at the link

The water from the waves that buffeted South Pier froze and created a very hazardous walking situation. A wise walker would avoid the experience .

Out shooting in the dark with polfarnes a while back. Went out with a boat to a small island to avoid light pollution. When we were going home, Aurora showed up.

There will be nothing new that is for sure!

As the thunderstorm was leaving (looking towards ENE here, with Mt. Imittos having an alt. of ~1 km), there were multiple pileus clouds, at least in 4 separate clouds here. Another thing that attracted my attention, was the contrail from the plane (a KLM flight, as a friend of mine informed me) avoiding the squall line. Athens, Greece, Nov. 26, 2021. I came across an interesting article on rules of photography composition and why they work.

"Avoid The Middle" is one of these rules….which I attempted to break…just this once. ;-)

Have a great day and week, everyone! 😊

A rhinoceros, from Greek rhinokerōs, meaning 'nose-horned', from rhis, meaning 'nose', and keras, meaning 'horn'), commonly abbreviated to rhino, is one of any five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae, as well as any of the numerous extinct species therein. Two of the extant species are native to Africa, and three to Southern Asia. The term rhinoceros is often more broadly applied to now extinct species of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea. Members of the rhinoceros family are some of the largest remaining megafauna, with all species able to reach or exceed one tonne in weight. They have a herbivorous diet, small brains (400–600 g) for mammals of their size, one or two horns, and a thick (1.5–5 cm) protective skin formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure. They generally eat leafy material, although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut allows them to subsist on more fibrous plant matter when necessary. Unlike other perissodactyls, the two African species of rhinoceros lack teeth at the front of their mouths, relying instead on their lips to pluck food.

The Australian wood duck, maned duck or maned goose (Chenonetta jubata) is a dabbling duck found throughout much of Australia. It is the only living species in the genus Chenonetta. This 45–51 cm duck looks like a small goose, and feeds mostly by grazing in flocks. The male is grey with a dark brown head and mottled breast. The female has white stripes above and below the eye and mottled underparts. Both sexes have grey wings with black primaries and a white speculum. Juveniles are similar to adult females, but lighter and with a more streaky breast. The Australian wood duck is widespread in Australia, including Tasmania. The Australian wood duck is found in grasslands, open woodlands, wetlands, flooded pastures and along the coast in inlets and bays. It is also common on farmland with dams, as well as around rice fields, sewage ponds and in urban parks. It will often be found around deeper lakes that may be unsuitable for other waterbirds' foraging, as it prefers to forage on land. S20N_1281

Phae Mueang Phi Forest Park is a beautiful natural attraction in Phrae Province of Thailand. Known for its unique rock formations, the park offers visitors the chance to explore a fascinating landscape steeped in cultural and geological significance. The name Phae Mueang Phi translates to City of Ghosts in Thai, reflecting the mystical atmosphere and eerie appearance of the park's rock formations. Also called hoodoos, these rock formations are the result of millions of years of erosion, leaving towering rock pillars that resemble ancient ruins or stone cities. The area has been inhabited by ethnic communities for centuries and remnants of ancient civilizations, such as ancient cave paintings, can be found in the park. These historical artifacts provide insight into the region's rich cultural heritage. The park is particularly beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the golden light illuminates the rocks and creates a magical atmosphere. There are beautiful viewpoints in the park and information boards with educational information about the geology, flora and fauna. The environment is serene and peaceful.

Phae Mueang Phi is a place of original rock formations in the Phi Pan Nam Range, Thailand. It is located about eight kilometers northeast of the city of Phrae in Phrae Province. The orange-brown area is full of many strange rock formations mushroom and anthill; depending on your imagination that were created more than two million years ago by eroded dirt and sandstone. You can walk to the viewpoint to see a panoramic view of the site and the surrounding green forest. Lots of nice spots to take pictures. However, I recommend that you visit the place in the morning to avoid the midday heat and don't forget to apply sunscreen.

In the middle of a heatwave we’re walking the dog early in the morning in the beautiful shady woods of the Ashridge Estate.

Edited phone shot from this morning’s cool hike.

Another one from Scalber Force, but this time the classic shot. Don’t get me wrong, I do like this one, but I’m always trying to see spectacular locations differently as to avoid the expected. If you haven’t been there, it’s a wonderful spot and when you are down in the canyon it feels like you are in a lost world. That is if there isn’t other photographers there looking for the same experience!

During my appointment yesterday the resident/student/doctor? joining us was being very helpful and jotted down the name of a vitamin on the back of a card for me as my doctor and I talked.

Before the appointment was over my doctor said, "You can ignore the Mammogram appointment on the back of that card."

I flipped it over and laughed a little. I looked up at them and said, "I'm gonna take a picture of this and put it on the internet."

Exposed five times. Twice at crossing, once with rose garden, yellow flowers (which I don't know the name) and finally fig marigold. Chose cloudy day for shooting flowers to avoid over-exposure. One of multiples in our ordinary lives

- Galen Rowell.

This Is one my favorite quotes from a photographer who influenced me the most as a young man. As a boy who grew up among photographers and a wedding studio in India, landscape photographers like Ansel and Galen were revered. Photography magazines with articles about them were cherished as rare gifts of photography insights. For me at least Galen Rowel was the first photographer who opened the possibility of adventure and traveling with photography thus marrying two my interests at the time.

This shot was taken at Burney falls in northern California. For such as imposing and majestic fall, it's almost impossible to get a genuinely standout shot. Every time I review shots from here, the quote by Galen comes to my mind and I feel like I am yet to get the right angle to make this falls standout. Next time I am going to avoid the wide-angle route and see if a telephoto will get me the shot I want.

I guess it’s gotta be there, lurking in the background. Actually, I reckon I did pretty well just avoiding all the parked cars….

Norwich Thorpe was closed over the long Easter weekend to allow for resignalling and track rationalisation prior to the electrification

A couple of weeks ago, As I was walking on the lawn at the cottage, I noticed a black oval object in the grass. I almost stepped on it but did avoid it. As I was walking away, I stopped and asked myself what it could have been. So I decided to go back a few steps to see what it was and to my surprise, it was a tiny baby painted turtle, its shell being about 3cm long. Somehow, this hatchling ended up on our lawn. I looked around but did not see other ones. It was so cute! I wanted to keep it but I knew it was better to return it to its environment, so I got in the paddle boat and took it to an area where there are other turtles and released it. I hope it survives all the possible predators.

Instruction no 19: go exploring.

I usually avoid the zombie walk in my hometown. I convinced myself to go exploring there even if I had a little prejudice against it (for pictures in mean).

There were so many zombies there and a big croud of photographers of all kinds.

Every time I was trying to take a photo there was someone trying to pose in it so it was pretty difficult to shoot in those circumstances; the density of the crowd made the context difficult for interesting backgrounds also.

This is the best I could do in the context for SP.

This location is actually not too far from where I live, however, I had avoided it as I thought the stone circle was too enclosed by the surrounding trees. What I hadn't realized, until I saw some shots from Taron Curtis, was how dark the sky was and what a good view of the starfield you got. I suppose there had to be a reason why these stones were put here and a great night sky is as good a reason as any.

Charging under the former Chicago and North Western coal tower in Clyman, WI, UP MCHAL heads towards Adams and eventually Altoona with a CN SD70M-2 leading. Coming into a decade of taking railroad photos, a well lit westbound shot here has always avoided me, until the timing all came together

Dramatic, dark, atmospheric gothic even; all words that spring to mind whenever I think of the Isle of Skye. There are a few locations on the isle that epitomise this image, and the Fairy Pools is one such place.

This is the second time that I’ve visited this spot and I’ve been taken back at the almost unlimited opportunities it offers for photographers, with a long series of pools framed by the looming backdrop of the Cuillin.

This particular fall seems to be the preferred choice for most photographers and it is hard to avoid photographing it yourself. On this day I was struck by how the cloudy sky was emphasising the greens in the pool. As the light was already dim I only needed my 0.6 filter to slow it down enough to allow the larger stones to show through the shallow water.

I had taken a few more images including a nice landscape version but I managed to accidentally delete them off the memory card; picture a ranting man in the middle of a glen in Assynt!

Like the image? Press ‘L’ to see it large and ‘F’ to add it as a favourite, and feel free to leave a comment; it’s always nice to hear what you think.

Thanks for looking
