Exposure was difficult due to the forest gloom and early morning light. The sloth bear is a unique species of bear found in the forests of the Indian subcontinent, including Sri Lanka. Their distinctive appearance and behaviour sets them apart from other bears.
They have shaggy, black fur, which often appears matted and untidy. The fur is longer around the neck, giving them a scruffy, mane-like look. They have a shambolic gait. There is a white chest patch, often V-shaped. Sloth bears have large, powerful jaws, but they do not primarily take larger animal prey. They use their claws for digging and pulling apart rotting logs to find insects, especially termites and ants.
Sloth bears are generally solitary and are largely nocturnal, foraging at night when they can find more insect activity. They are shy and avoid human contact. They are not aggressive unless provoked.
The species is currently classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN. Populations are declining due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and poaching for their body parts.
Sloth bears are known for their loud vocalisations, which include grunts, growls and roars. They are also adept climbers.

Excuse me, have you seen any ununsual ongoings?
Unusual? As in things I wouldn't want to happen? No officer, nothing of the sort!
But you look like...
Definitely not, officer! We're honest, law avoiding citizens!

A final photo (probably) from last month's visit to Golitha Falls...
The River Fowey on a particularly gloomy and windy autumn morning at Golitha Falls. I composed this shot to bring the leaf covered boulder into the foreground. With the foreground so close to my lens, I opted for a 2 exposure focus stack - in order to capture front-midground sharpness.
Due to the gloom (and light impeding polarising filter - for cutting through the reflected light on the leaves to give more saturated colours), my shutter speed was naturally slow without an ND filter. In fact, to avoid the moving water turning too "milky," I dialled the ISO up to 1000.

Having avoided the ice cave trips for the past seven years - due to price and crowds - I decided to visit one on this trip, since there were very few other tourists around (and the ISK currency was a bit weaker). I was in a small group - guide, Icelandic couple from Reykjavík and Belgian woman working in Höfn. We walked across the top of the glacier with crampons first, before descending to the edge and entering this cave. There were a couple of other groups there too, which at least gave some scale, although I would've preferred one person, not moving around, for that! The guide told me that on a busy winter's day they can have 35-40 groups there (wow!) - so a few hundred people, queueing up to get in the caves...
This ice cave is found under the Breiðmerkurjökull glacier that feeds the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon with large icebergs, which then get smashed up in the tides and wash up on my favourite beach.
i'm trying to write reports.....but would rather be playing with my photos...
my head is spinning from flat-buying this week. I never realised how complicated it would be!

A welcome find on my owl hunting evening particularly as said owl insisted on hunting out of reach of the camera.
This group of five young pheasants posed for a few minutes on a nearby wall.
This was late evening so quite high on the ISO but also providing a lovely pastel effect to the background.
Lets hope these guys avoid the shoot.

Kolkata... Rustically dilapidated, where walking on the street is safer than walking on the pavement. Red lights are merely a suggestion. Crossing the street seems to be a life threatening national sport. Seat belts - what seat belts? For heaven sakes avoid the blue buses because they won't avoid you. Always look both ways before crossing the train tracks. Mind the cows, dogs and cats. Feel free to bathe in the street - everyone does and you won't be noticed. I will never complain about traffic again. The car horn is a national musical instrument which everyone seems to have perfected because they're playing it all day long. Every street is a different market selling all kinds of goods and wares. Be prepared for selfies several times daily - not taken by you, but taken by others who want a selfie with you. But, if this is all that you see in Kolkata then you truly haven't experienced the city. People always say look beyond the negative - I don't consider this a negative. Rather in this case I would say look into all of these things and you will see friendly, hospitable people who are content, with a sparkle in their eyes and smiles on their faces. Walk down any street, say good morning to someone and they smile back at you and wish you a good morning too. It's no wonder that Kolkata is called "The City of Joy!" All of this makes Kolkata a street-photographers paradise where photos are happening every second. I stayed for 9 days, but it could have been 90 days and it still wouldn't have been enough. It was a life changing experience that I shall never be able to forget and will always cherish. Until next time...
Macro Mondays theme: Superstition
The “Evil Eye” is a human look believed to cause harm to someone or something. The supernatural harm may come in the form of a minor misfortune, or more serious disease, injury — even death. (Ref livescience.com)
According to the European folklore, you should always carry a piece of garlic with you to avoid the Evil Eye.
Anyhow, don’t worry! Even if you don’t favor my picture, I would never give you the Evil Eye! Or would I? 😉
Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

The titmouse is lighter on his feet so he avoids the Juncos staying up in the branches if he can. Juncos chase other Juncos, the Titmouse & also the Nuthatches. Blue Jays are bruisers, much too big for this tree. We've been chasing the Ravens away, they'd carry the entire tree off if we'd let them. Thank goodness there aren't any squirrels. There's certainly a lot of personality bobbing around on this back porch rail.
I've always avoided doing DSOs in Moonlight but a while back, I bought an Optolong L-eNhance Triband filter which can be helpful in reducing light pollution and stray Moonlight - it predominantly passes 3 narrow band widths centred on:
Hydrogen Alpha: Red, 656.4 nm
Oxygen III: Green, 500.7nm
Hydrogen Beta: Green-Blue, 486 nm
The filter is certainly more opaque than my standard IDAS P3 light pollution suppression filter. Usually my flats are exposed at 1600ms but for this filter it was 6500ms at 0 gain. Autofocus and plate solving exposures were 4s at 578 gain.
The raw image was lacking in contrast - not surprising given the Moonlight but I've used curves enhancement and local contrast enhancement in PixInsight to improve that. I haven't altered the colour palette as this was a first test for this filter.

Funny story: I was trying to avoid my neighbors and my mom from seeing me with paint all over my face- it didn't work :)
self portrait- why do I look depressed lately!? Grrr...
sorry guys, if they are starting to look the same....
I'll try something new out and try more creative shots :)
So just a little sidenote: watercolor is NOT easy to get off your face (I'm actually still trying to get it all off- and I have youth group tonight. Dang.) but it's ideal if you want a runny paint look :D
Everything is desaturated except the watercolor.....
this looked so much better than selective color (trust me, I tried that :D)
Tomorrow's 365 is going to be difficult because my cousin is getting married!
so I'm gonna attempt to wake up around 4:45 or 5 (ugghh) and shoot outside...if not I'll just post one from the wedding or something :) ahhh I'm so excited, I get to shoot her portraits with a couple other people!! its gonna be funnnnn :D
EXPLORED! yay :DD thank you so much everyone!

We started late to avoid the worst of the morning chill, but ended up being the last car in the parking area at the end of the day. Although only 6 km's return distance, with a gain of only 700 m's, it took us 5 and a half hours to complete because we had to break trail for most of it...
Because they are endangered, many Piping Plovers are banded. This particular one is one of the first I've seen this season and has avoided being banded.
Second shot today from the Star Casino deck is a deep dive into the centre of Southbank Parklands which line the southern bank of the Brisbane River opposite the city itself. Up until the 1970's, this area of South Brisbane was one to be avoided if possible consisting of old, mostly abandoned warehouses and wharves, sleazy pubs and miscellaneous other businesses all left over, it felt from the 1890's! These were swept away by a basic park by the late 1970's although in this view you can see a couple of heritage buildings that were saved.
Then came World Expo '88 that transformed the area and started a complete renewal of most of the surrounding suburb which is now home to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, a TAFE college and Griffith University, the ABC's Queensland base, The Exhibition Centre, the Queensland Museum, Library, Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art at the western end. These are mostly out of frame to the right. The pool(s) are basically the centre of Southbank Parklands. The line of low rise home units beyond the trees are bordered by Little Stanley and Grey Streets with the ground floor for the whole distance being a long line of very diverse restaurants.
Not many people on the beach the day this was shot back midweek in September . This spot on the river is about the centre of a large reverse S (from this side) as it meanders across its flood plain. And flood plain it literally is as both sides have been inundated to one degree or another in every major flood.
This area is served by South Brisbane railway station while the far eastern end including the Maritime Museum is adjacent to Southbank station.
On my current US road trip, I wanted to catch some Alpenglow. While having sunrise and sunset reds on sandstone (like in Arches NP), which brings out the reds indeed, a white, i.e.snowy, background does work nicely as well. Contrasting, blue sky. That was the goal.
Not being the luckiest with the weather, I basically had one shot about shooting a sunrise, prefixed by two hours of searching and settling for a place where an assumed sunrise might be seen nicely. So, the next morning, I went on a dirt road in Owen's Valley, ran around in the half-dark, avoiding all kinds of cow releases, finding a spot where I could get some interesting foreground, masking a bit the not-green grass. I liked the Owen's River being quite calm, and what I also liked were clouds in the sky giving the light some brightness variations when it hit the nearby mountains.
Afterwards, we continued to Yosemite Valley, but more on that in the coming pictures.

The African jacana (Actophilornis africanus) is a common species of jacana in sub-Saharan Africa. Jacanas are waders with conspicuous long toes and claws made for walking on floating vegetation in shallow water. The African jacana is easily recognized with its chestnut body, white and black head and a blue beak that extends over its eyes. It normally reaches a length of 30 cm (12 in) with females somewhat larger than males.
African jacana is found in various still to slow-moving fresh water habitats, such as lakes, marshes and large slow-moving rivers. It needs floating vegetation for breeding and often tall reeds and similar vegetation for shelter and hiding. It is often found at the edge of the water or walking on floating vegetation, such as water-lilies, where it primarily feeds on insects in addition to spiders, worms, crustaceans, molluscs and seeds.
The African Jacana is a good swimmer and diver. When foraging, it swims over open water from one vegetated area to another.
To avoid predators, it can swim underwater, and in the same situation, the chicks can stay underwater for a moment with only the bill tip above the surface, and they swim as well as the adults.
If threatened, the bird raises its wings in aggressive posture to the predator as a visual signal. It also utters raucous calls if the intruder flies across the territory.
Outside the breeding season, this species is gregarious and may form very large flocks.
This lovely Jacana was photographed early in the morning, foraging in the waters of Hyena Dam in Nairobi National Park, Kenya.
Being single is a choice. Some say, to avoid heartaches, heartbreaks & love problems. But some singles choose to be single because... THEY ARE STILL LOVING SOMEONE SECRETLY...~~

it was at about this point we decided to climb straight up the valley's edge instead of carrying on up the Nick. The rocky scree up the Nick looked harder work than just clambering up..
Album fodder.
Though the temperature of 10º Celsius is not really low compared to snowing countries, it is still called "cold current" in Taiwan. I stayed at home and avoid being outdoor in such a cold and rainy day.
攝氏十度對很多下雪的國家而言,實在不算是冷,但是對台灣而言,就已經是「寒流」等級。
當然,我這怕冷的,完全避免出門,在家翻舊庫存。

Rush hour traffic starts to build in Cardiff, whilst 153309 whizzes over the top and into Cardiff Queen Street. 2V47 18:15 Coryton to Radyr.
The Cathedral of Florence ("Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore") was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style. It is one of Italy's largest churches and has the largest brick dome in the world (completed in the 15th century). The work on the outer wall also took centuries and the marble facade seen here was only completed in 1887 with design elements by Emilio De Fabris. At the top right of the picture you can see the bell tower ("campanile"), which was built by Giotto in the 14th century.
There is little space between the cathedral's facade and the baptistery, it is impossible to photograph the facade directly from the front without getting extremely converging lines. In addition, there are always a lot of people in this area, so that you do not have a clear view of the cathedral without special measures. Still, I tried to make a virtue out of necessity in order to achieve an interesting visual effect. I created a vertical panorama from two wide-angle shots stitched together using perspective projection. I used some further shots for the people, mainly in order to avoid distracting elements. I didn't have a tripod with me, you can't take that with you anyway if you want to visit the attractions. So everything was shot hand-held at high ISO, and I removed the noise with Lightroom's new AI noise filter.
I took my dog over to the common today. (Both of my dogs actually) but one of them is a pro at avoiding the camera.. I suppose years of practice. Oops. Have also just go myself this canon 6d. Absolute game changer compared to my 70D. Cannot wait to get more serious with my photos!
