Zugarramurdi is a place-name of unknown meaning, although it surely comes from the Basque language. The philologist Koldo Mitxelena proposed that the etymology of the name could be 'abundant place in ruinous elms', from zugar (elm) + andur ('ruin') + the suffix -di (suffix indicating abundance). zugarrandurdi -> zugarramurdi. Mitxelena himself acknowledged that he had no evidence in ancient documentation that could prove his theory. In normative Basque esp. Elm is called zumar, but zugar is a dialect variant that appears in many place names. On the other hand, -di is the suffix abundant that accompanies the names of trees and plants in Basque, and is attested in a multitude of place names, such as Lizardi, Aresti, Gorostidi, Loidi. For example, Zumardi means olmedal and alameda in Basque. In the case of the toponym Zugarramurdi there is an intermediate element that currently seems unrecognizable.

In Basque and Spanish, the town's name is transcribed the same, although the z is pronounced differently in both languages, so the pronunciation differs slightly. According to Mikel Belasko, the countrymen colloquially use the variants Zugamurdi, Zamurdi or Zuenburdi, syncopated forms of the name.

Coombes Farm - visitors are invited to come and see the lambs being born. We have 800 ewes meaning around 1,200 lambs will be being born during this time. We will also have 80 Sussex cows calving too.
We will also offer tractor rides to the top of the downs to see the animals out in the fields. Trips can be booked for groups at Lambing time, to see the lambs and calves being born and ½ hour tour* of the farm to the top of the downs.

"Like someone who opens a door of glass
or sees his own reflection in it
when he returns from the woods
the light falls so variously here at the end of October
that nothing is whole or can be made into a whole
because the cracks are too uncertain and constantly moving.
Then you experience the miracle
of entering into yourself like a diamond
in glass, enjoying its own fragility
when the storm carries everything else away
including the memory of a freckled girlfriend
out over the bluing lake hidden behind the bare hills."

Could the autofocus system on the Z 6ii be better? Of course. Can it get the job done? Certainly. Does it take some getting used to? Again, yes! Did I miss some shots - a big yes. Did I miss shots with my DSLR's? Another big yes. As with anything, the more I practiced and shot, the more keepers I got. Gotta keep practicing!

Erg Chebbi (Arabic: عرق الشبي) is one of Morocco's two Saharan ergs – large seas of dunes formed by wind-blown sand. The other is Erg Chigaga near M'hamid.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi reach a height of up to 150 meters in places and altogether spans an area of 50 kilometers from north to south and up to 5–10 kilometers from east to west lining the Algerian border.
The nearest sizable town is Erfoud, about 60 kilometers further north. One other city is Rissani, around 40 kilometers from Merzouga, and from the 8th to the 14th century there was a separate kingdom, known as Sijilmassa, which was prosperous owing to former caravan routes.
Although rainfall is very brief and uncommon, in 2006 flooding adjacent to the dunes destroyed many buildings and killed three people.

Although having cloudy weather during your vacation is considered as a less than ideal situation, and I tend to agree, sometimes, like that day here, clouds provide great backdrop. Here, I've been standing on a pier in Mandre, island Pag, Croatia.

On January 12, 2015 a highly respected Khmer Krom Buddhist monk, Venerable Thach Khan, was fatally stabbed by a teenage fellow monk in the Phnom Penh, Cambodia area. On January 17th there was a ceremonial funeral procession held in Siem Reap in a show of support and respect for the fallen monk. I was in the center of town in Siem Reap on the 17th and I took this photo as the procession passed through. It has been said that the young monk had been spending time in coffee shops and had a girlfriend. The older monk was in the process of chastising the younger monk for his violation of their creed when the confrontation took place. It has also been alleged that the investigation was faulty, that there was more than one person involved in the killing, and that politics was somehow involved. In any case the young monk was not charged with murder but rather was given a five year prison sentence for intentional violence with aggravating circumstances.

The Irati forest or jungle (Iratiko oihana in Basque) is a forest distributed between the north of Navarra (Spain) and the Atlantic Pyrenees (Sola and Lower Navarra) in southwestern France.
For its Spanish part, it is located in the valley of the Irati river, between the Orzanzurieta and Roncesvalles mountains to the west, and the Orhi mountain to the east. The southern limit is set by the imposing mass of the Sierra de Abodi. The main accesses are to the west through Orbaiceta (Valle de Aézcoa) and to the east through Ochagavía (Valle de Salazar).
It is the largest forest mass in Navarra and one of the largest and best preserved beech (Fagus sylvatica) and fir (Abies alba) forests in all of Europe. Despite being a forest exploited by forestry since the 16th-17th centuries, the respect and good work of the inhabitants of these valleys has made it fully preserved. There are several protected areas within the area: the entire Irati is a ZEPA (Special Bird Protection Area), as well as protected areas such as Natural Reserve or Integral Reserve of the total 17,000 ha of forest.
First chronicled in 862, Belozersk was one of five original Russian towns (the other being Ladoga, Novgorod, Polotsk, and Rostov).
