Life is lived in the mists - little is fully visible, less is certain.

Yet rejoice in the unknowing - and let all of life be a wonderful adventure.

Report from a photo trip to Lofoten – 27

A white-tailed eagle approaching its prey with claws extended. When eagles catch fish, they grab them from the surface of the water with their talons.

Just after sunrise, only indirect light illuminates the eagle, but rocks on the nearby mountain are in full sun, creating reddish reflections in the water. The photo is from an eagle tour that started with a speedboat from Svolvær on Lofoten (Norway) in mid-November. The wild eagles were attracted by bait fish and we could admire their hunting behavior from 10 to 15 m away.

For those interested in more technical details: The most difficult task was to keep the eagle in the narrow focus range of the 300 mm telephoto lens. First, I set the Nikon Z 9's autofocus to 3D tracking and activated bird detection. It was not so bad, but once focus-tracking lost the eye due to the rapid movements, it was difficult or impossible to regain focus quickly enough. It was better after I set autofocus to wide area AF with a large focus area where it was easier to keep the eagle in.

I set the camera to ISO-Auto, all other settings were manual: f/7.1, 1/1600s

Yesterday I went out in search of hummingbirds. They are one of my favorite wildlife subjects. They are small, fast and tend to hang out around plants that can easily confuse an autofocus system. In other words- a blast to try to photograph. I found this one at the San Diego Botanic Garden.

At the easternmost end of the Parish of Encamp, going up the Port of Envalira, to the right we find the ponds and the Pessons circus. It is a magnificent granite glacial cirque where we can enjoy the largest lake complex in Andorra. The circus is surrounded by peaks such as the well-known Pessons peak, Ríbuls peak, Montmalús,... all of them close to 2,800m in height. It is a very frequented and popular site due to its natural wealth and its easy access. However, in this valley we will always find hidden corners from where we can enjoy the magnificent landscapes and crystal clear waters of its high mountain lakes.

Autofocus in the dark is ok but not great. Hope its just my lack of understanding how to use a new camera

Brightly coloured beach huts are an essential part of the British coast. They go together with ice creams, sandcastles and the unreliable British weather to form part of our experience of the seaside.

Our volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, and our seasonal lifeguards look after people on busy beaches. Our Flood Rescue Team helps those affected by flooding.

RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,200 lives since 1824 but we’re more than a rescue service. We influence, supervise and educate people too. Our Community Safety teams explain the risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea or to the coast. And our international teams work with like-minded organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk all around the world.

These images of the rising sun are all SOOC...taken from Laurel Knob Overlook of the Blue Ridge Parkway, No. Carolina .( altitude. 4,980 feet....1,517 meters) ... It is one of my favorite places to watch a sunrise...but it is almost an hour's drive from home ..so I only get there for sunrise 3 or 4 times a year.

When the sun 1st rises ...I try to take a variety of shots with different levels of zoom.....all of these shots show the same view, and were taken moments apart ....the 1st shot is 48 xs zoom ...the 3 shots below were taken with progressively less zoom ...
