imported from Japan, not cheap, this uni (sea urchin) is special, Sakura Restaurant, Lakeway, TX. I am thrilled to now have two excellent Japanese restaurants only a few minutes from my house in sleepy Lakeway, TX. Sony A6500 and Sigma E60/2.8. The A6500 IBIS helped with this hand held, low light shot.
This weeks theme for Macro Monday is: The English alphabet is made up of 26 letters, 5 of which are vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and the rest of which are consonants.
So, for this week’s macro theme we will be photographing something that starts with a vowel (the letter a, e, i, o, u). This can be the subject (eg apple, egg, umbrella) or an adjective (eg instant coffee, orange wool – the ‘i’ in instant and the ‘o’ for orange meet the rules of the theme, therefore photographs would be accepted. Equally, any object starting with a vowel is accepted too; it does not have to have an adjective, it can simply be something starting with a, e, i, o or u.
On my travels I have always looked for 'special' decorations to hang on our Christmas tree. Ideally it should have some sentimental value.
Of all those we have collected our Christmas cactus from Arizona is my favourite. We came across it on our second big road trip around the SouthWest of the USA. We found it at our next stop after The Grand Canyon South Rim, a place called Cameron Trading Post, a name that evokes the Wild West. Sure enough it is filled with native American stuff. And if I had had my way I would have walked out with a full Indian Chief feather headdress, but my wife said I looked ridiculous. Fortunately I found the little cactus decoration and was satisfied enough with that. It's over 20 years old already.

Walking down the Boardwalk on Saturday and ready for lunch, the Philly Cheese Steak on their marquee drew me in. It might possibly have been my first authentic cheese steak. Sure, you can get one anywhere, but the cook knew exactly what he was doing... Ready in minutes and it was delicious. I sat at one of the tables in front of the restaurant on the Boardwalk and watched everyone walking by... Felt the wind off the ocean and the sun was warming, though it was only 42°F that afternoon.
On August 31, 2021, preparations were underway at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's yard in Antonito, Colorado, for TRAINS Magazine's "Sunset on the Rio Grande Southern" photo charter the following day. Rio Grande Southern 4-6-0 No. 20, visiting from the Colorado Railroad Museum, was steamed up for what would be its first long-distance outing since the completion of a 10-year restoration. Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-2 No. 463 was transformed into long-scrapped Rio Grande Southern 455, a very similar locomotive, with tender and cab lettering by John Bush. Adding an air of authenticity was short caboose 0400, built for RGS by the D&RG in 1891. It appeared in the movie True Grit with John Wayne in 1968.
► ▓░█ THE SOLEMN PRAYER of the Great Entrance resonates in the magnificent nave of this 115-year old church nearby the docks of Antwerpen/Anvers, the largest Belgian sea and river port. This Roman Catholic cathedral sets the stage for the 1,6 millennia old authentic St.John Chrysostom's liturgy done by a local orthodox community. The shift of occupants occured due to extreme shrinking of the original RC membership who let the SOC use the premises.
The Great Entrance is the larger of the two processions in the liturgical life of the ancient Church. For a bystander perhaps the most impressive part, as the other exhibit less physical motion than this one. It takes place at a point during the first half of Divine Liturgy when the bread and wine to be offered are carried from the Table of oblation, located at the north side of the sanctuary (sometimes occupying its own apse), out the North Door and back through the Holy Doors to be placed on the altar. This entrance interrupts the Cherubic Hymn and when paused in the middle of the nave all who serve in the altar line up in a row facing west (to the lay people). This is accompanied by a series of intercessions formulated according to the customs of the jurisdiction. The procession then returns to the altar through the Holy Doors while the choir resumes the Cherubic Hymn, now in a much livelier tempo.
Here in the middle, raising the Cross in his hand is the guest priest Krsto Stanišić, head of Utrecht parish of S.O.C. To the right is the archpriest Milan Živanović singing out the prayer while holding the chalice. He is in charge of the local community now settled in this church, which goes by the name of great-martyr George, Victory-bearer and Wonderworker. He is also appointed by the bishop as the overseer of all the Benelux parishes. Fr.Milan is privately a fervent enthusiast of the modern-day church history, husband and father of two lovely kids.
❖ Developed from raw and edited in Affinity Photo 2.4 The lighting in this like in most other churches is tricky, weak with a mix of different cold and warm types, a challenge to set the WB for, and putting especially the micro-four-thirds gear to test. My BIG FAIL here was to have 'cut' the cross in fr.Krsto's hand, as when you handheld the camera in low light you kind of nest it firmly in a position and this move of the priest was very quick and short-lived.
