This gritty, dark-stoned fortress has the rare ability to evoke an authentic medieval atmosphere. The first time that visitors catch sight of the castle, commanding a rock above the Conwy estuary and demanding as much attention as the dramatic Snowdonia skyline behind it, they know that they are in the presence of an historic site which still casts a powerful spell. Conwy, constructed by English monarch Edward I between 1283 and 1287 as one of the key fortresses in his 'iron ring' of castles to contain the Welsh, was built to prompt such a humbling reaction.
It might not look pretty, but it's a SOO GP30 in original paint. Thing is, the paint looks really rough an worn, but it's original! One of the long hood doors got move around at one time, so the "SOO" is not fully intact, but it is all there. Did I mention original?

The Sándor family hosted me (09/23) to watch them making artisan cheese in their kitchen parlour. All milk comes from their own cows, sheep and goats. (Homoródalmási Kézműves Sajtok).

I went to a concert in Charlotte North Carolina and we passed this abandoned building with this no trespassing sign on it, someone had sprayed painted all over it except the part that said trespass, I thought it was perfect and had to get it inside my camera 7/29/15

This weeks theme for Macro Monday is: The English alphabet is made up of 26 letters, 5 of which are vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and the rest of which are consonants.
So, for this week’s macro theme we will be photographing something that starts with a vowel (the letter a, e, i, o, u). This can be the subject (eg apple, egg, umbrella) or an adjective (eg instant coffee, orange wool – the ‘i’ in instant and the ‘o’ for orange meet the rules of the theme, therefore photographs would be accepted. Equally, any object starting with a vowel is accepted too; it does not have to have an adjective, it can simply be something starting with a, e, i, o or u.
On my travels I have always looked for 'special' decorations to hang on our Christmas tree. Ideally it should have some sentimental value.
Of all those we have collected our Christmas cactus from Arizona is my favourite. We came across it on our second big road trip around the SouthWest of the USA. We found it at our next stop after The Grand Canyon South Rim, a place called Cameron Trading Post, a name that evokes the Wild West. Sure enough it is filled with native American stuff. And if I had had my way I would have walked out with a full Indian Chief feather headdress, but my wife said I looked ridiculous. Fortunately I found the little cactus decoration and was satisfied enough with that. It's over 20 years old already.
imported from Japan, not cheap, this uni (sea urchin) is special, Sakura Restaurant, Lakeway, TX. I am thrilled to now have two excellent Japanese restaurants only a few minutes from my house in sleepy Lakeway, TX. Sony A6500 and Sigma E60/2.8. The A6500 IBIS helped with this hand held, low light shot.
On August 31, 2021, preparations were underway at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's yard in Antonito, Colorado, for TRAINS Magazine's "Sunset on the Rio Grande Southern" photo charter the following day. Rio Grande Southern 4-6-0 No. 20, visiting from the Colorado Railroad Museum, was steamed up for what would be its first long-distance outing since the completion of a 10-year restoration. Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-2 No. 463 was transformed into long-scrapped Rio Grande Southern 455, a very similar locomotive, with tender and cab lettering by John Bush. Adding an air of authenticity was short caboose 0400, built for RGS by the D&RG in 1891. It appeared in the movie True Grit with John Wayne in 1968.
I was lucky enough to win Blueberry's Authentic Mega Pack give-a-way! ♥ The set as a whole is fantastic but the REAL hidden gem is the fatpack HUDS !!
This steam locomotive was first driven In 1813, George Stephenson became aware that William Hedley and Timothy Hackworth were designing a locomotive for the Wylam coal mine. So at the age of twenty, George Stephenson began the construction of his first locomotive. It should be noted that at this time in history, every part of the engine had to be made by hand, and hammered into shape just like a horseshoe. John Thorswall, a coal mine blacksmith, was George Stephenson's main assistant.
"Castello di Amorosa, the only authentic medieval (13th-century) Italian Tuscan castle and winery built in America, officially lowered its drawbridge for business in April 2007. Castello di Amorosa is nestled in the western hills on 171 acres just minutes south of The Napa Valley town of Calistoga. After several decades of personal adventure visiting and studying medieval castles and wineries throughout Italy and Europe, Dario Sattui, a successful 4th-generation Italian winemaker and entrepreneur, began building Castello di Amorosa in 1994. Over the course of this marathon project, the Castello has evolved to include over 136,000 square feet, including 107 rooms (90 of which are devoted to winemaking and wine storage); an enormous Great Hall with 2-story replica Tuscan frescoes painted by Italian artists and a 500-year old fireplace; 8,000 tons of hand-chiseled stones; 8 levels (4 above ground and 4 below); a drawbridge, dungeon and torture chamber; medieval church; and arguably the single most impressive wine barrel room in the U.S., with ancient Roman cross-vaulted ceilings."
