A bit wild and wooly on the bay today

Olympus OMD EM10 Samyang 7.5 fisheye trial

A landslide occurred in the vicinity of the Buðarárfoss waterfall several months prior to my visit and was the result of heavy rains which saturated the ground.

10 building in the vicinity of Buðarárfoss were destroyed.

When I think of colors and Miami, I think of pastels. Pastel colors on the art-deco walls of South Beach. I believe these natural hues are what inspire that aesthetic.

I took this from the top deck of the ship in the port of Miami. I had already been up several hours to capture the inaugural docking of Symphony of the Seas. Now we were having breakfast and walking back to our cabin for the final time. We were ready after 12 days at sea. It was nice to be home, but it was also sad to leave.

Many of these high-rise apartment buildings are empty during the summer. They are vacation homes for people who come down in winter. Once, during summer, I stayed in a hi-rise hotel right downtown. At night I looked out from the thirty-first floor and, all I could see was empty, dark apartments. Now that it’s winter they’re all lit up and full of color.

Australasian Swamphen

I have struggled to find the motivation to get out and take photos in the Current Victorian Lockdown 6.0, part of that is because clearly, we can't go to many places (due to the 5km limit, and nighttime curfew) so I have slowed down taking photos. That said I decided when going for a walk for exercise to take my camera and capture some photos just around my neighborhood. The image below is of an Australasian Swamphen which is a subspecies of the Purple Swamphen which was hanging around a lake just around the corner from my house. The image was captured in late August 2021 and was captured with a Sony A7R IV and a Tamron E 70-30mm (@300mm). Camera settings were 1/800 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1600. The image was edited in Lightroom, Aurora HDR, Topaz Denoise AI, and Topaz Sharpen AI.

Kiama was the location of this weeks sunrise shoot - Decided to take a different angle on the place for a change.

These boats are in Collioure in Southern France. It's a Catalonian village known for sardines, among other things.

After I took the photo, I saw a couple of street artists selling paintings of these same boats. They seem almost picture-perfect, almost as though they were placed here for effect. But that could just be my jaded view of things, and it's not something the French are prone to do.

One of the primary industries here is sardines. The last time we came through, I ordered a plate of them at a seaside cafe. For all I know, these may be sardine boats that returned in the morning. The rest of the day, they are click-bait for photographers like me. That was a lame joke.

7 exposures combined in AuroraHDR - Punch Drunk Preset

This photo is created with the 2019 version of AuroraHDR. Skylum, the company that creates AuroraHDR, has outdone themselves this time.

That's good for people like me that take a lot of bracketed shots. This is a three frame HDR that I processed with both Aurora and Luminar. Luminar is the other software from Skylum that is a lot like Lightroom, only easier to use and, in my opinion, better. In truth, I use a lot of different tools including Lightroom and Photoshop; it's all good.

I ran into a guy today that showed me some jaw-dropping photos of Iceland he took with his phone. The colors and detail were so amazing that I thought they were processed; no, straight-out-of-camera. That just goes to prove that the processing is not everything. Placement, composition, a sense of balance can produce better photos than all the processing in the world. All this hocus-pocus is just icing on the cake, so to speak.
