This was shot from the parking lot of the Ha Ha Tonka castle ruins. It is the second photo that I've produced using Aurora HDR software... a joint project between Macphun and Trey Ratcliff to produce the finest HDR software in the world, giving photographers all the tools needed to create breathtaking images. To learn more about it, go to aurorahdr.com/getstarted/overview-aurora-hdr.
Incidently, this image is a joint effort between my granddaughter and me. I was teaching her about how to shoot in the manual mode tonight (she's never taken any photos but by the end of the session she was shooting and making camera setting adjustments) and then I showed her how to post process an image using Aurora HDR. We both liked the result so I then exported it to Photoshop for some final touches (simply because I'm not totally familiar with Aurora HDR yet).
This stone water tower, along with the ruins of a magnificent European-style mansion or "castle", remains on the former Robert McClure Snyder's 5,000+ acre estate, now a part of the Ha Ha Tonka State Park in the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. At the beginning of the 1900s, Snyder, who was a prominent Kansas City businessman, began construction of a magnificent European-style mansion or "castle." More than 15 miles of trails wind through the Ha Ha Tonka State Park, which has sinkholes, natural bridges, caves and an arm of the lake. The beautiful Lake of the Ozarks has over 1,000 miles of shoreline and attracts visitors from around the world.

An off-angle view of a lone tree in the Wall Street area along the Navajo Loop in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thought on composing this image was to capture the setting to my front, from the image bottom with the tree base to the tree crown and skies above. Using a portrait orientation allowed me to include all of that. While there was a large dynamic range between the two portions of the image, I attempted to meter the exposure to minimize blowing any highlights while being able to later pull out the more shadow areas, using Aurora HDR Pro. I later worked with DxO PhotoLab 5 to make edits for the final image.

Isn’t it cool when you find a hidden garden in a place you never expected? This is kind of like that for me.
Actually, this is the gardens below the Bok Tower in Polk County Florida. I (and countless others) have taken this exact shot, but this time I wanted to include the foreground as well. In this way, it forms a natural vignette of the pond and water lilies.
To make this work I had to use a technique known as focus-stacking. One photo was focused on the closest plants while the other was on the far side of the pond. I also used a very high f-stop which maximizes the depth of field. Then it’s a matter of careful blending to get it all sharp. Little projects like this are time-consuming, but relaxing at the same time. There are worse things I could be looking at.

This is another photo of the stone water tower. I shot it from the ruins of a magnificent European-style mansion or "castle", remains on the former Robert McClure Snyder's 5,000+ acre estate, now a part of the Ha Ha Tonka State Park in the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. What fascinates me is not the fact that it is beautiful (which I think it really is)... but if you look closely in the lower right-hand corner, there are two people standing on the side of the cliff. They were using a counter-weighted jib arm to lift a remote-controlled Blackbox video camera into the air. The videographer and his assistant had been shooting video off the side of the path from this one spot all afternoon. I can only imagine that the counterweights at the bottom of the arm probably made it an arduous task to move it anywhere at all--especially given the unsure footing on the edge of the cliff.

A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views of this creek setting as it flowed through the nearby forest. This was along the Mill Prong Horse Trail in Shenandoah National Park.
While hiking the Mill Prong Horse Trail to the Rapidan Camp in Shenandoah National Park. This location is depicted on Google Maps as Big Rock Falls. The view is looking to the west, centering the waterfall in the image. I felt this composition would allow for me to use the clear waters as a foreground interest with a backdrop with the forest of trees.
I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete color setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 7 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.
While taking in views and walking around the Rapidan Camp in Shenandoah National Park. The setting is looking to the southeast with the Brown House and more distance mountains as a backdrop. I liked the idea of using the graveled path as it lead into the image as part of this national park setting.
