I had a night off from guiding tonight for Lights Over Lapland and despite the geomagnetic storm forecast I was intending having a night in as it was looking like 100% cloud cover and I was tired. But had seen on the webcam the clouds where starting to clear so headed up the hill with my friend Nivi. She is keen on yoga and the skies cooperated with the aurora so tried to combine all the relevant aspects together. Created this yoga in the winter solstice geomagnetic storm image. Used the canon 5d mark4 at f/1.8 iso 6400 and 0.3 of a second exposure.
Another shot from the extrodinary aurora-outbreak on the 25th of october. Geomagnetic storms happens once in a while, but this one was just crazy.
All critics are welcome, also negative - but please no flashy logos etc. They will be deleted! Thank you :-)

The aurora made a spectacular display just after nightfall in Virginia last night as a G4 magnetic storm hit Earth!
I probably missed the best sights. At the time of this shot you could not see the lights with the naked eye anymore. Half an hour earlier I found a red glowing sky.
The bright glowing "star" is probably Jupiter.

The Sun remains very quiet with little opportunity for aurora photography at 55N. This is an old but previously unpublished photo.
Starting to use luminosity masking in my post-processing so used that to boost some of the contrast/luminosity in this shot.

A rare treat as the Northern Lights reached South Carolina and lit up the northern sky for an hour from the beach. Both the Andromeda Galaxy (top middle) and The Pleiades Star Cluster (bottom middle) show up nicely amongst the lights.

The Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis. What a great night, eventually went to bed at 0345hrs! Taken across the field at our back door. I really should make the effort and visit Balgavies Loch and get reflections in the water too.
feb 7, 2020. not the most spectacular display of northern lights I have witnessed but I never get tired of watching them shimmer in the sky.
I had thought we had seen the last of the northern lights for the season, as we are rapidly nearing the midnight sun. The darkest we get right now is dusk. Imagine my surprise then, when I looked out the window on my way to bed at 1.30 am, only to see something faintly green chasing over the sky. I opened my window to enjoy the sight, and thought I would see if I could catch it with my camera. This photo is taken out my living room window, I had no chance for putting up my tripod, so this is handheld, which is why it is not quite as crispy as it could have been. I have never seen the aurora so colourful here before, nor against such a light sky.
From the spectacular aurora-outbreak last night. Ersfjorden, Northern Norway.

Taken in the north Atlantic about 150 miles south west of Iceland on board the cruise ship Ambience. Captain Egel very kindly switched off the deck lights to allow these phots to be taken.
My first look at northern lights this season. Not because they haven't been there, but because it is now getting dark enough for them to show, as well as all the stars.
