A phenomenal Geomagnetic Storm last night. This is the best storm I have seen in the States to date (after 23 years of watching).
Aurora Borealis dancing over Illgen Falls a few weeks back. After getting them in the early hours of the night, I drove roughly 4 hours north to this spot, in hope the aurora would come out and got lucky, I was hoping for more of a big show, but I can't complain at all.
Living at 40 degrees north latitude means I don't often get a chance to see an aurora display. We got a tip from my wife's meteorologist nephew that there might be some going on. I wasn't able to see these with my naked eye but a long exposure got what was available.
Green, red and violet-blue visible in this first night of the season that I've ventured out to photograph the night sky.

Last night the northern lights were fairly bright for the whole, like, five minutes it was actually dark. I think aurora season is well and truly over for the year, alas.
Happy St Patrick's Day! We sure got some great auroral displays on our Alaska Workshop this year. This evening had some of the most intense purples I've ever seen (I actually had to desaturate them to look normal). With the sky filled with streaming aurora, I decided to use my ultrawide 12mm lens. Such a wide lens will often produce extreme distortion that is easy to see with trees and architectural subjects. Aurora dancing over Mud Lake in Paynesville. The Aurora will always be my favorite thing to photograph/witness and was always top on my bucket list of things to see.

the most crazy aurora display i have seen:) crazy stuff, but oh so fascinating, the colors and light in the darkness is so beautiful:)
this has some light pollution, but it only gives the image some more crazy colors:) lol
