This night the aurora was some kind of different. There was little movement and the sky was just like painted green.
This is taken just outside of Akureyri Iceland last weekend. I just missed out of some amazing lights an hour earlier. But thats photography. To get the best nature pictures you have to have some luck also with mother nature!

The northern lights put on a spectacular show tonight. And to think we almost did not go out as we had been out the night before. Aurora borealis near Calgary Alberta
With our trip to Iceland nearing its end and no real sign of the Aurora, the impending forecast of clear skies and high CME activity resulted in the most spectacular thing my eyes have ever witnessed. The colours you see here are true to time and i have no way changed them. Even the hotel staff claimed it was the biggest show they had seen for many years!!!!
When I drink, I typically use this familiar tool.
The macro world looks nebulous when my lens aperture is completely opened up at a minimum macro focal length for a minimum depth of field. My lens will go as wide as f/2.8 for portraits but when it comes to macros, f/4 is as open as it gets.
Went out this evening with some of my friends from my photoclub, it was raining abit but we decided to go just on a top of a small hill to try to catch some lighttrails from the cars ect.. right before we were gonna pack up the gear and head on home it stopped raining and the sky cleared up and then.. crazy northern lights all over in green and magenta colors... it was just breathtaking but despite not being at the best location due to light pollution i manage to get a couple of shots. It is not very common to see them so well in the town amongs the lights like this, we usually go abit outside and away to do that but... this evening i even still saw them when i got home just above my house...hardly ever happens... can´t get enough of enjoying this amazing sight.. sometimes i even get so emotional when they are dancing like crazy as they did tonight :)

Looking over Glenbeg from Dreggie hill, Grantown-on-Spey. After standing around at Lochindorb waiting for something to show in the sky I decided to head home with nothing. A last minute decision as I pulled into my street saw me turn around and head to the top of a local viewpoint to see if I could salvage anything. I salvaged this. Better than standing by a freezing loch for a couple of hours plus it's only two minutes from the house. Bonus!
" What makes a clear ray tremble in the night?
What strikes a slender flame into the firmament?
How can it be that frozen steam ,
Should midst winter bring forth fire ? "
Mikhail Lomonosov (Russian Poet) , 1743
Taken in late March near Glenallen, Alaska on a late night drive. The orange glow on the horizon is the approaching dawn. Fuji 800 film, Kiev-19 35mm SLR, 24mm lens.
As we've been in the solar minimum this winter, nice auroras have been a bit few and far between. However, tonight provided a nice aurora.
It's always a bit different to shoot the aurora with the moon fairly bright. It dims the aurora and keeps the sky from being black but it illuminates the ground. But I like it either way as long as the aurora comes out to play.
However, with me out in my under ware, slippers and a heavy coat. I didn't last too long in the -25F temps.

The Lady Aurora was out dancing across the sky again last night, I must say i feel quite privileged to see this. Taken about half past 7 and the light from the sunset is still just visible in the horizon.
another evening spent gazing at the sky, very cold but well worth it.
Taken from the island of Sommaroy near Tromso Norway.
The Northern Lights glow on the horizon, Anvil Island, BC. They were not visible to the eye, but the camera records a lot more light than the eyes can see.
Aurora rays, Finland.
First Aurora shots with a new 20mm lens. I've surely missed an ultrawide in general landscape photography, too. The solar cycle is approaching its maximum so there should be more northern lights visible in the near future.
