I was playing with a flashlight the last time I was out shooting aurora along the Red Deer River north of Sundre, Alberta, creating a bit of a ghosting effect. The forecast for aurora is really strong tonight - unfortunately so is the forecast for cloud. Let's hope for some holes in the sky!

One of the many highlights of the second last night of April 2014. This shot is SOOC and the colour is accurate. The Chorus of Frogs was the background music for this wonderful roadside stop. Thanks to our crew, Driver Brett and Navigator Brad we achieved our mission!

When the auroras come from straight above here at South Pole, they form these very beautiful coronal shapes. They can be very colorful like this particular one.
Westerhever Leuchtturm beim Nacht: From left to right (from north to south): aurora, by a powerful CME that hit earth on Sept. 12 - yes, the aurora borealis is visible in Westerhever, north part of the Milky Way, almost completely washed out by the moon (85% visible), the lighthouse with light beams, the south part of the Milky Way. The auroras can move in fantastic patterns in the sky, here is a short series of a swirling aurora high above.
Just reliving the experience from January this year. One I never posted and then forgot about. This was a funny shot to take as Peter went sliding down the underside of the jetty and a race for the 'central' spot ensued. We were on our way to Sweden, drove about 3 miles and then saw this and didn't get much further. These images become more dream like every time I see them as the rain and mist here make it seem like another world.

A band of Aurora follows the lake and mountains into the distance at Kattfjordeidet, near Tromsø.
The ice we were standing on here seemed really thick but every 5-10 mins would expand and sounded like a cannon being fired. Certainly enough to make me very nervous!
The small village of Torvaig (Torabhaig) on the Isle of Skye, just outside of Portree, where even the cows stopped chewing to watch the Merry Dancers light up the sky
As the day had drawn to an end the slowly clearing skies revealed bright Aurora dancing on the mountain tops and retrieving tide seaweed covered rock path leading deep into the fjord.

Now that I'm starting to feel a little better from jet lag I feel like editing a little bit more. We had this incredible display burst out in front of us the other night. It's absolutely incredible seeing the entire sky covered in aurora. This is actually a single from from a timelapse so....at some point I'll have that out for your viewing pleasure. Dixie J. Just back from a 3 day tour with clients from Hong Kong, their reason for the Iceland visit was to capture the dancing aurora over the Glacier Lagoon, so we had an insomnia nigth out there couple of nights ago.
The winds have been blowing the plume from the Holuhraun volcano over the glacier to the south part, so there was a mist on the mountains, not helping with the aurora shots, but sure made some amazing soft light in the sunrise and sunsets out there.
