Skoda Motion@Waterloo Augmented Reality Project with screen, App and Live Stand - 2nd February 2015 - Creative Solutions
3d street art for Christmas light-up Orchard Road Singapore. This anamorphic painting is created on a wooden platform in front of Wisma Atria Shopping Centre. The 3d street painting of aprox. 65 m2 has been created in 5 days by the Dutch artists Leon Keer (design) and Ruben Poncia. If you scan the painting in the centre with the Augmented Reality application of Junaio, snowfall will appear on you the screen of your smartphone or tablet.
2003. Rixome aimed to design and provide simple authoring tools for a future augmented Internet.
Rixome was a concept, partially developed in 2004 with Macromedia Director, that aimed to build a new Internet extension into physical space before the augmented reality euphoria began around 2009.
I applied GPS and WIFI for build a simple authoring tool that allowed to write anywhere in a hybrid or augmented reality, avoiding any legal or physical limitations. The main objective was to start the building of an ambitious creative tool in the context of locative media, my personal brush, or at least something equivalent to what this is for an oil painter.
The idea was conceived in 2003 in the Master of Arts and New Technologies of the European University of Madrid, and the first version of the Rixome application was presented in June 2004. The web of the project was referenced by popular blogs like WMMNA, Engadget and Infosthetics, among others, receiving some emails from people interested in collaborate. During a year after graduating from the university, I presented it to around 12 calls for artworks in Spain, but unfortunately it didn’t get any funding…
These were the ideas, still valid, that moved me towards Rixome:
Nowadays we see how a city is not that social structure at the service of the citizens, but an aggressive auctioning area that mutilates any personal expression, a city-screen, instead of a city-interface.
With no rights for sharing any graphical or textual impression, the citizen must respect the advertising media that is handled by expert groups, and along with this, their messages. Advertising has exclusive rights over publication in the urban setting, and the streets are devoid of citizens creativity and thinking.
To this untouchable non-city, we purpose a city where you can leave your mark. The public space should also be a media space open for communication. We should reconsider the ductility of our streets and the publishing rights of their walls.
In the future we must avoid confusing a clean city with a city where there are no ways to civically declare our presence.
This is a concept video I did to explain the idea very briefly: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5bcVK...

Here's an OmniGraffle Sketch of the topics that come to mind when I consider the field of Augmented Reality. Steve Mann and Thad Starner are part of the historical aspect.
I'll write more about this after I get back from SF and #eComm.

Fluxus boxes were intended as non linear narratives to be handled, touched, performed, disseminated, destroyed, reassembled, counted and reconfigured.
Just as cinema montage and music had learned, the orchestration of symbols, visions and other sensorial components was able to create novel scenarios. Interactivity and tangibility created a state of continuous recombination, multiplying interpretation and cognitively activating people, who became part of the artwork while handling, imagining and communicating. The connection with the ordinary flow of life created new dimensions in the world: stratified, recombinant and engaging.
In occasion of the 50 years of FLUXUS we have decided to research on this wonderful form of expression, both for the innovation it has provided in the arts and for its connection with many of the mutation processes that are going on with contemporary humanity and their ability to experience media, communicate and interact.
At the event Mercoledì da NABA series of events, on December 15th 2010, we will hold a workshop/performance in which we will build a Fluxus Box using Augmented Reality and other cross-medial techniques and technologies.
The ojective will be to research on the Fluxus Box approach, and to appy it at a “meta” level. The objects contained in the box will be tools through which the experience of multiple Fluxus Boxes will be holdable, remixable, juxtaposable, recombinable, enacting a meta-performance encompassing possibly infinite remixed reenactments of Fluxus performances, experiences and events.
The box we will produced will be donated to the NABA, and the custom software that will be created for the occasion will be released under a GPL2 licensing scheme, so that it will be usable by artists, students and practitioners worldwide, in a further level of the performance.

I'm experimenting with mobile phone Augmented Reality applications. For example, here in front of the Newhouse school is a phone screenshot of crime reports near my school. The masked person icons denote burglaries in those directions; the fist an assault; the spray can graffit; and the question marks other (mainly minor) crimes.
