Working closely with U.S. Forces, coalition partners and Afghan government officials, Soldiers from the J9 section of Joint Sustainment Command - Afghanistan helped coordinate the donation of essential supplies - such as book bags, notebooks, and wheelchairs - to help aid the citizens of Afghanistan and support the opening of a new police station, school, and medical clinic in Howz-e Madad, in the Zharay District of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

The University of Baltimore School of Law played host to the 8th Annual Veterans’ Legal Assistance Conference and Training on June 3, 2016, providing attendees with “an opportunity to serve those who served our country.” Breakout sessions included “Basic Training: Veterans Benefits 101”; “Advanced Training for Practitioners: Hazardous Exposures – Agent Orange or Burn Pit Exposure”; “Mentor Training 101: Veterans Mentoring Veterans in Baltimore City Veterans’ Treatment Court”; “Federal Disability Programs: Ways to 100% Disability Through SSI, SSDI, and TDIU”; “Child Support Basics for Veterans and Their Advocates”; “Military Discharges and Character of Service Determinations”; and “Best Practices for the New Veterans Benefits Practitioner”. Laura H. Eskenazi, Esq., Executive in Charge and Vice Chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, delivered the keynote address for the daylong program.

In addition to funds specifically for CDM projects, another source of funds for developing countries facing climate change are those designated as Official Development Assistance (ODA). Between 2000 and 2007, the region of Latin America and the Caribbean received 8.5% of these funds. One category of these resources is directed at providing development assistance that targets the objectives of the three Rio Conventions: the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification – under the rubric of the so-called Rio Markers. Between 2000 and 2007, the region received approximately US$1.4 billion (in current dollars) for sectors aiming to deal with climate change.
