Toyota / Sustainable Retailing - 2010 / 2012

Space Projects were appointed by Toyota GB Plc to formulate a blueprint for their “Sustainable Retail Centres ‘” throughout the U.K. Being current brand guardians for Toyota GB Plc and having completed a successful roll out programme for 190 + sites, Space Projects are ideally placed to identify ‘eco technologies’ that will compliment and enhance the operational demands of Toyota Centres.

The study looked at every component and operation of a typical Toyota Centre to identify opportunities to minimize environmental impact through reducing energy use, generating energy, saving water, rainwater harvesting, recycling. In tandem with environmental benefits, the study demonstrated commercial benefits via life cycle cost savings for the Retail Centres.

The realization of these works will be translated into Toyota’s new showrooms during the in the first half of 2011.

Ambassador Theater

Completed 1922

Architect Herbert J Krapp

Refer " A Shubert-built theater, the facade of the Ambassador is not much to look at, except for the unusual angled entrance. Krapp made a specialty of making theaters fit where they shouldn't. The entrance is part of his solution for this theater, siting the theater diagonally on the property to have room for a standard-sized auditorium. "

Architectural treatment of Huntly Power-station on the Waikato River. Largest thermal station in NZ, shaped to fit the setting, (but some more-recent changes visually ignorant). This shot shows the rural-fringe setting seen from SH1. Expression of four generation units and reduced super-scale. Parallel to River; outlook orientation; -- the strongest line in the landscape.

Re : "In 1918, Wagner moved to Staten Island, to the 38-acre former estate of Sir Edward Cunard of the Cunard Steam Ship Company. For a price of $60,000, and with the help of a friend of the College, Dr. Justus Holtzstein, Wagner purchased the property. Soon after, the first Staten Island class of 16 students, one professor and 2,000 books took residence on Grymes Hill. "

Statue: Pioneer of Modern China ; Lin Ze Xu

Re: In 1838, Lin Ze Xu was appointed the Imperial Commissioner in charge of dealing with opium smuggling. In 1839, Emperor Dao Guang ordered Commissioner Lin to suppress the entire opium trade. A death penalty was imposed on anyone involved in the trade. Lin discovered 22 British ships, each loaded with a thousand cases of opium. He ordered the owners of the opium to surrender the opium and gave them an ultimatum. The British initially tried to bribe him and surrendered only a thousand cases. When they failed to bribe him, they threatened him. Lin, being a patriot, insisted that they surrender the whole amount. When the British denied him, he ordered his men to burn all the opium and throw it into the sea. This provoked the British and a clash took place between the forces of the British and Lin's men. The burning of the opium resulted in the Opium War in 1840.
